Bosqué del Apache last week
In reply to tylerken, Feb 3, 2013

It was 12°f this last Friday morning in Bosque. You may note that some of the birds in these images have ice rings clinging to their lower legs. They sleep standing on one leg in shallow water with their heads tucked under a wing. In the night, the water freezes to a depth of 1/2-3/4". We were shaking our heads at the sight but the birds seem to take little notice other than to shake some of the ice off before flying out to feed in the surrounding farm fields.

Birding with 5DII/EF24-105
In reply to tylerken, Feb 3, 2013

Sometime one has to make do with the lens that one brought along. Siberian Jay's enjoying pancakes.

Sorry I didn't bring my 70-200 lens on this skiing trip.

Are the crane pictures cropped heavily as well? Amazing to get their eye sharp at long distance. Nice background blur as well, looks exotic, coming from a snowy place :-).

Rather unusual to see warblers
In reply to tylerken, Feb 3, 2013

Where I live by this time of the year most warblers have migrated south (except for the Yellow-rumped), so it is a little unusual to see several species in the cold months:

Pine Warbler:

Pine Warbler

Pine Warbler

Nashville Warbler

Tennessee Warbler

Tennessee Warbler

Tennessee Warbler

Orange-crowned Warbler

Orange-crowned Warbler

and finally a kinglet (which is common in the winter):

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Oregon Sea Lion
In reply to tylerken, Feb 3, 2013

I was able to take a picture of this sea lion in Astoria, Oregon yesterday.  It separated itself from the rest of the group after going for a swim, just long enough so I could have a photo of a seal lion without any other distracting elements.  The sun had not come up high enough in the morning yet for a better illuminated image, but I liked it...hope you do too.

This was taken with a Canon T2i (550D) camera with the 55-250mm lens.  A little cropping was done for composition etc.

The first image is full-frame. The other two are cropped to about 40-50%.

Thank you all for the kind words.
