The rebate form specifically says one "1 claim per househould."

So are you guys shipping it and billing it from a different address?

I too was thinking of getting a second printer.  Hell it is cheaper than buying another set of inks.  The quality of this thing is mind blowing. I love it!

GOT my first rebate!
In reply to Darryl E Mylrea, Jun 13, 2013

You can always call them at the 800 number. I got a nice woman on the phone who was able to confirm they had all my info, even though the website status checker didn't show anything.

Mine now says "Payment Approved".

I have one more that was sent, that hasn't shown up yet...I'm trying to be patient.

I'm happy to hear yours is in process!

I just got my first AMEX card in the mail today for the first rebate from my Atlex purchase.  Woo hoo!  My other one from B&H is still not showing up online yet, but I sent it a while later.

You can do different addresses (or names, as in use a wife, etc) but the easiest is to take advantage of the offers offered by B&H Photo and Adorama, too, as their rebates are both different promotions (they look the same, but they are specific to BH and Adorama andhave different promotion ID's), and so you can buy a PRO-100 at say, Atlex and send in the "general" rebate, then buy one at BH and one at Adorama.  Three different rebates.  Just read the terms, and you'll see for yourself.

I got my second rebate yesterday.  That one didn't even show up online; it just showed up in the mail.  Glad it's over with, now I don't have to check anymore.

Now to best find a way to spend the rebates.  I wish I could just get the cash back so I could just pay most of the printers off.  I guess it all works out in the end if you spend the money wisely.

My idea of fun is actually NOT changing the complete set when one goes down to empty.

Think about what actually tends to happen when you only change one cart at a time as they each go empty. Eventually you will be CONSTANTLY changing carts after every few prints. As you begin to regularly print, you will use colors at different rates and before you know it you enter into what I call the DOMINO effect. That is where one carts is empty and another is almost empty. As soon as you insert your new cart, the printer will perform a purging cycle and the next almost empty cart will now be registered as empty and so on and so on. Oh and guess where ALL this WASTE inks goes. Right into your waste ink pads. And to make matters worse, there is no way in hell you are going to able to reset the counter and change these waste pads yourself unless you know how to completely disassemble the PRO-100.

If you have it done professionally, it will cost you more than the new printer. So the moral is to avoid all the purging cycles that you will put your PRO-100 ( or any other printer ) through, by just replacing the complete set when on goes empty. You will reduce the cart replacement and purging cycles by a factor equal to the # of carts in your systems. You will extend the life of your waste pads by an equal factor. Besides, the PRO-100 hardly ever will need to have a head clean cycle run.

Trust me on this. I am successfully running over 15 large format Epson and Canon printers in my shop.

Joe do you know if the canon pro 100 has waste pads or waste tank?

Thanks

It has buried waste ink pads. So eventually they will fill up. Only PRO models such as the Image ProGraf series has replaceable maintenance tanks. However the Canon printers generally hardly ever require cleaning cycles. If you do not let these printer sit for days without printing anything, they should print without first running a short cleaning cycle.

Refilling / topping off a complete set of carts when one is empty will also extend your waste pad's life tremendously as you will not be replacing or refilling individual carts every week or so ( The Domino Effect ) I will never stop preaching that concept!

The PRO-100 has a very low NET price with the current rebate situation. But if and when it will need waste pad servicing, it will cost you about 2x the NET price to have them replaced and the counters reset.

In a perfect world, the rebate would be applied at time of purchase and the vendor can go collect it.  That's a lot of money to have on the hook.

Hi Joe,

Would (do) you leave this printer on or off when it is idle? From my reading it seems as though Epsons are best left off...while some Canons are best left on...what do you do for the Canon Pixma 100?

You are asking a totally impossible question. It I depends on the lightness or darkness of the image. The predominant colors, quality setting, type of paper.

It takes approximately 1 TOTAL combined ml of ink to print a letter sized print.
Besides colors with be used at vastly different rates. So again. You are asking a question that is impossible to answer.

I HIGHLY recommend that you do that.
You will not use any more ink than replacing one cart at a time. Well only as far as in printing.

Once you get your printer established you will reach a point where carts are constantly reaching a point where they have to be replaced. Quite often you replace an empty or low cart only to have another declared low or empty right after the purge cycle takes place. It is a true Domino Effect.

If you continue this cycle your waste pads will reach saturation point prematurely.

So follow this advice which is what I do an ALL 15 of my printers.

I always have a filled and reset full set of carts for ALL my printers waiting in the aisles so whenever one cart is low or empty I replace the whole set.

Doing this will eliminate The Domino Effect. You will reduce purges almost by a factor of the number of carts in the set. Your pads will live longer and you will save a huge amount of ink that would normally would be purged away after each cart change.

The amount of ink is the same whether you change one carts or all 6-8-9-10 or 12 carts.

Trust me on this.

I replace the empty one and any others that are 20% or less.  I can't see replacing carts that are 80% just because some are running out.  I print a lot of B&W, so it's not unusual for the three blacks to go much more quickly than the others.

20% might not be the optimum point, but there's got to be some middle ground between replacing them all and only the empty ones.  Maybe it should be 40% and not 20%, but I'm definitely not going to replace expensive carts that are mostly full.

Having said that, if I was using inexpensive bulk ink then my reply would probably be different.  But I'm using OEM cartridges.

Hi,

Sorry to drag this thread up.

I just ordered one of these printers from the an auction site, it's coming from the US ( I'm in the UK ) is new and hasn't been used but has no inks- I guess the seller just bought it for the inks thanks to the rebates over there.

I had planned to buy a set of normal inks here in the UK and use them and this post has got me worried- can anyone confirm that the set up inks have more than 14ml in them- I might be able to talk the seller out of selling it to me!

Thanks in advance

The Pro-100 comes with standard ink tanks, not a smaller "starter" tank. They are what they are.

If you want to save a ton of money, you could order a Precision Colors refill kit, but you will still need the chips from an original set of ink carts. If you can find someone who is selling/throwing away an empty set of carts, you would be golden. Various kit options are here: http://www.precisioncolors.com/PC42cref.html
