Still loving the OMD, it is so versatile :)

Havent posted up many images in while, my black and white project for the commercial piece is winding to a close, with one more to shoot at the subjects convenience... Here is the most recent one, again she is not a model, but a professional in the corporate world, this was taken in her townhome living room, which was so small I was standing almost in the kitchen

Love her pose and the strength in her legs, the way the dress creases and the expression on her face. This took about 30 tries with her kicking her knee up, quite the workout. 45mm f1.8

Then here are some recent studio product shots for some companies:

Extensive PP on this one, well thats modern electronics... Believe it or not, I chose the Zuiko 35mm macro for this a real hidden gem that lens.

Can you believe this necklace is worth about $50,000... well you dont take the subway wearing it. 50mm f2 Zuiko.

This next one is for a company that sells , LED lighting for commercial applications. Popped over there and took a series of shots around sunset. I liked this one.

The goal was to show the new brighter LEDs, I liked the cool sky over a black night, shot with the 12-60 Zuiko

And finally some family stuff shot over Christmas and New years. These were from my sisters b-day in london at a pub... normal pub lighting:

Straight out of camera, with the 25mm f1.4 micro

Same as above

And a couple of portraits for fun shot the night before I was leaving int he living room, with 1 FL50r shot into an umbrella:

nieces, sister and brother, 45mm f1.8 fl50r shot into an umbrella, no fill.

45mm f1.8 shot into an umbrella with white foamcore for fill.

I am loving the OMD, and will be shooting some ultimate frisbee for fun tonight (playing as well) so I will see what I can do, I have been shooting a bit of indoor volleyball for my league as well. It is great fun and the 9fps really helps

I have a question or two. The first image why did you cut off the foot she is standing on or is this not the whole image I am seeing.

The last two images. The group looks like the faces are overexposed. Same for the girl in the last shot, looks overexposed or call it too much direct light in the last two images.  Would using soft-boxes yield a different result, softer less harsh light?

Good question, these shots were hit and run, the backdrop doesnt extend tot he floor, it is just a shoot of scored foamcore (scored for folding in transport). So many of them are 3/4, in this shot I wanted to show the other foot but couldnt incluse the floor. Just a compromise.

The last two images. The group looks like the faces are overexposed. What light source did you use? Same for the girl in the last shot, looks overexposed or call it too much direct light in the last two images.

Just expression with light. Overexposed is only if you didnt intend the level of brightness in your final shot. If you did it isn't overexposed For the girl I wanted it to be bright and airy, for the groupshot, same ,  just a bright contrasty image. It is always a good idea to remember that neutral exposure isnt the only result and over/under exposure can also work.

So, exactly what is it about the EM5 that enabled you to take these photos that another camera could not?

I don't see that the original poster made the claim anywhere in his post that any of these images could not have been taken with a camera other than the E-M5.

It's entirely irrelevant that other cameras have been created in the history of the world that can duplicate this result. What is relevant is that the E-M5 can accomplish what he wants to accomplish. This question, which I've seen before, is utterly inane.

Exactly!! this thread is Entirely Irrelevant!!

Many cameras are just as "Versatile" - some more, some less.

This topic is just another example of creating a warmy feeyl goody emotion for the fanboys.

It's transparent that the OM-D's popularity (by dominating the subject of the majority of topics on this forum) is making non Oly users frustrated.    All that's needed is for enthusiastic Pana owners to start speaking up.   I suppose as the GH3 is more readily available the board's tide will turn.

No, that was your original comment, reminiscent of someone who could pick a fight in a phone box.

Did the OP make any claim otherwise?

This topic is just another example of creating a warmy feeyl goody emotion for the fanboys.

No, your post is just a great example of someone who got out of the wrong side of bed and decided he'd let us all know about it. Grow up, if you think a post is irrelevant then just ignore it.

Are you seriously asking me? Or just being asinine? First;y my EP2 probably wouldnt have looked so good in the pub, ISO 6400 f1.6 and shutter 1/20, it also doesnt have the tone control function that the OMD does (although my EPL2 does) so I couldnt shoot black and whites like that out of the camera... Aside from that, and that any camera lacking a hot shoe couldnt have triggered the strobes wirelessly for the portraits... Any lens without similar aperture or close focusing properties wouldnt have produced the same results, larger cameras like my old a850 wouldnt have been easy to bring with me to a family dinner with my 20month old son... I could go on.

Point is, and I am happy others noticed it too, that you didnt actually pay attention to message, which is to demonstrate a number of types of shot taken with the OMD, and my continuing enjoyment using the system. Do you believe the OMD is NOT versatile?

Dont throw names around, there is nothing wrong with showing others who purchased this camera and may not be able to get the best out of it what is possible. If that creates warm fuzzies then so be it

The OMD is indeed incredibly "versatile". What do I mean by that? Well, as many professionals will testify it's a fantastic work tool (I make my living professionally and my OMD and lenses are certainly earning their keep). Secondly, it's a terrific camera for personal projects, enabling you to carry a full equipment set in a small lightweight package (not something I had the pleasure of when I only had my DSLRs and whopping great lenses). Thirdly, it's a compact camera if it needs to be (stick the Pana 20mm pancake lens on it, or the Pana 14-42 pancake and you have a fantastically high performing walkabout camera which will fit in a large coat pocket). So in that regard, we could in fact argue that the OMD is more versatile than other cameras, at least at the present time.

Good to see you're enjoying the OMD, I thought the happy fellow in the pub was great shot under challenging conditions.

It would be nice if the pointless attacks would cease around here. If you are enthusiastic you're a fanboy, if you slam something you're a troll! Why do people have to be rude all the time? I wonder if it serves some shallow purpose and gives them a greater sense of accomplishment in photgraphy.

Thanks, partly the IS I imagine and partly developing the intuition to shoot when they hold still for a moment.

Brand fatigue, people here want to discuss what interests them (that's why they come) and the OMD is getting too much attention, wearing people down, leading to irritable comments I imagine.

Thanks for the comment

Alatchin, from the sound of it you're having a lot of fun with the OMD, as those terrific images will testify. Whilst my big DSLRs are impressive in many ways, they are certainly no fun to carry around and the OMD has taken some of the pain away from my work, which is one of the reasons I like it so much. It makes my life easier and the quality of the output is never in question.
