This week, I've got a few snaps from a local scrublands park near my house - along with my normal wetlands birds.
Love that varied thrush - great looking bird. Nice shot on the waxwing too - I'd love to get a good shot of one of those someday, but they don't often come down my way.
You had some really good light on on your swampland birds, esp. liked the sora.
Great variety Justin! Painted bunting & Purple gallinule- very colorful. Nice exposure on the Egret. And, cool shot of the spider web with droplets.
Some gorgeous birds!
a terrific set, love the 'eyebrow pencils' !
Really nice shots...question (not familiar w/ Euro birds), What is the difference between goldfinch and chaffinch?
I got to spend a few days at Green Cay a week or so back and the sora and painted bunting shots make me think that's where you were. Some nice shots there!
I'd actually taken my first ever shots of a sora at Green Cay on the first day of the trip and shortly afterward my a700 died (the aperture mechanism problem). It's off in Laredo now being repaired and I picked up an a77 to try in the meantime, which has been winning me over. It's odd that the sora was there almost every day I went out and yet I'd never seen one before, while I didn't see any of the roseate spoonbills that were almost always around when I was last there in November.
The Goldfinch and Chaffinch are similar sizes. The Goldfinch is much brighter coloured. Only the male chaffinch is brightly coloured. The female is quite drab. Chaffinches are mainly ground feeders and goldfinches are seed feeders.
Nice collection steelhead, love the shot of the Otters, on my trips to the Sierras I have seen Beavers,Weasels,Bears but no Otters, not sure if they are up that far.
Very cool and colorful set Justin, love the odd shaped Spider shot, it has a very interesting look to it.
