What's the most comfortable neck strap for Canon SLRs?

If nothing has changed since the 20D days, I'm guessing the included Canon strap with the 6D would get a little uncomfortable after a while especially with a heavy lens. Have any of you replaced it with an aftermarket strap? I remember buying something from Op/Tech many years back but wasn't sure if that's still the preferred pick these days. Any recommendations would be great!

Sun Sniper and Black Rapids make some really nice stuff. I prefer the sun sniper because they can come with a small steel wire to prevent theft.

Op/tech makes comfortable straps, and they are cheap.

That said, you may want to check out BlackRapid, or Carryspeed.  I use BlackRapid myself, and pretty happy with it.  But there are other options.

I can comfortably carry my 5D and 24-70 all day with the Rapid Strap.  It took about 30 seconds to get used to it.  My neck can't handle the regular strap.  It is also a little less noticeable than the red and white lettering advertising your expensive camera.  If I do put a neck strap on it, I use the one from my RebelXT.  It is amazing how an old strap from a cheaper camera can lessen people's curiosity.

Should have mentioned standard, not sling.

Thanks for the replies! I was checking out BlackRapid and it looks intriguing, but ultimately won't work since most of the time I'm carrying a Lowepro sling bag that would get in the way. I'd need a straight-up neck strap that attaches to the loops on the camera.

+1 for the Optech. I love my CPS strap which is made by Optech. Way more comforable than the stock strap.

Bags really do not get in the way.... certainly not as much as a camera with a standard type strap.  I've got lots of different bags and still want my camera on a Black Rapid resting on my right hip ready to go... always.  I can do this with a bag on my left... or a knapsack... I've done it with heavy packs and a gun slung on my left and the camera on my right.  It's one of these things that you can't imagine how good it is till you try it.

Well I'm intrigued. My neck always did get sore even with an Op/Tech.

I have the Uni-Loop version but the Pro Loop looks good too. I can unattach the main part of the strap leaving the small connectors on the camera. You can find at B&H, Adorama, Amazon or almost anywhere.

OpTech - take care...
In reply to StoopidMonkey81, 4 months ago

I have OpTechs on all my cameras and they are very comfortable - but careful... Those quick release clips can come undone and the camera will drop to it's doom.

My 5D2 and 70-200 dropped to the deck when the clasp became undone and I was very lucky not to have a badly damaged lens.

I've since modified the straps to include a simple safety feature, whilst allowing almost as quick a release.

I'm going to bring the improvement to their attention and perhaps they'll introduce it as a "safe" strap.

For carrying two cameras I do like my BlackRapid as an alternative, but I miss the comfort of my OpTechs when I do so.

Op-tech

Best straps I've ever used. THey distribute the weight very well and you will feel like your camera is half the weight that it really is.

If you want the sling type, go for a Black Rapid.  Very good stuff and convenient to use.

Why would you carry a camera with weight on your neck?

Get a non-slip strap of medium width and carry on your shoulder. I went thru an entire evolution of trying different straps; got out of using my neck a long time ago.. went thru Optechs, UpStraps... eventually ended up with a Tamrac N-45 suede/padded strap.. Straightforward, and suede is a great natural non-slip surface. The Upstrap by the way, was the best non-slip strap, though was a pain to pack up into a carry bag as it was somewhat bulky and inflexible.

Carrying a body around your neck for any period of time is nonsensical.

Black Rapid RS-7

This is the strap I use and it's great.  It puts all of the weight and pressure of the camera onto your shoulder not your neck.  The muscles in your shoulder are much larger and stronger than the ones in your neck.  I can walk around with my 7D, battery pack, and 200 f/2.8L lens for hours with that thing and it doesn't bother me at all.

There's also not a problem carrying a bag on one shoulder and the 7D/RS-7 on the other shoulder.  I just criss-cross them and the balance is perfect.  RS-7 on my right shoulder (7D on my left hip); camera bag over my left shoulder with bag resting on my right hip.

I use a 3" wide neoprene strap that streches somewhat nice. Hooked around your shoulder and you won't know its there.

Totally agree. I use a Lowepro sling bag as well (on the left) and the Black Rapid on the right. No problem at all.

I made my own form of Black Rapid sling strap, really liked it until I found this for $10 on ebay... I ordered 2 and they are awesome. I shoot Rodeos professionally and can spend 2-6 hours with a 1DIII hanging off of me and the sling strap is handy and comfortable.

Cheers!
