Besides m4/3, what other system do you own?
|
I know this question pops up once a while. But since now I got to the point where I am comfortable enough to build a system on m4/3 (somehow I wasn't comfortable when I owned the Sony Nex-5N), I find myself reaching for the DSLR less and less. I have built my Canon system for many years, it is my workhorse and gives me total control in image quality and operations.
I think it would be interesting to know what other system do other m4/3?
For me, I have a small, medium and large camera.
Small - In my briefcase everyday
Sony RX-100
Medium - If I don't want to lug the DSLR (eg. social events, vacation)
OM-D (used to be Sony Nex-5N)
O 17mm f1.8 (for environmental portraits)
P 12-35 f2.8 (for general purpose)
O 75mm f1.8 (for portraits)
(Hoping to have a quality super-tele lens soon for birding)
Large - If performance/image quality is priority (eg. wedding, birding, studio)
5D3
TS 24mm f3.5L II (extraodinary TS lens for interior shoots and architecture. But rarely used)
35 f1.4L (for environmental portraits, social gatherings eg. baby shower)
85 f1.2L (for portraits, especailly wedding)
100 f2.8L (for macro. This lens doubles up as portraits. So hiking is good)
16-35 2.8L (for party and landscape requiring ultra wide angle)
24-105 f4L (for general travel. It's quite good for portrait as well. Really good for traveling)
70-200 f2.8L IS (for portraits and must-have lens for wedding)
100-400 L (when I want to travel light in wildlife/birding)
500 f4L (must have lens for birding (or sport that I rarely do))
EX580 flashes / softbox - for studios and outdoor lighting (may upgrade to EX600RT)

Only my m4/3 system. It is compact enough if I want it to be and delivers the quality I want.
Olympus E-PL1 with kitlens
M.Zuiko 40-150mm, M.Zuiko 12mm, M.Zuiko 45mm. Thats what I take most of the time with me.

MFT, Canon S95, Canon p&s
One for photography, with a capital P
One for good carry for good daylight
One always in car as a recording device
My phone is really old and don't have a camera. I newer/better one would probably replace the p&s

m4/3 - Panny GX1 + Panny 14mm f/2.5, + Panny 14-45mm + Oly 45mm f/1.8 + Oly 40-150mm
Panny LX7 - compact, fast lens all-around shooter
Panny ZS3 - venerable hiking & travel companion
I use the above cameras for landscape, nature, urban, travel & all around fun photography.
I sold Nikon D40 & D60 with DX 16-85mm, 18-55mm, 55-200mm & 35mm f/1.8 lenses... I don't miss them much.
I don't make money with photography, just am an amateur hobbyist...

Centered around an X100 and an XPro 1. I only have the 35mm for the X Pro right now, I will likely add a couple lenses in the next year.
I also have some Minolta and Nikon lenses hanging around - the Nikon 500/4 MF I can use with no loss of functionality with an adapter. The Minolta stuff (like the 80-200/2.8 G) is dinged up enough that there isn't enough of a reason to sell it.

are two different things
Have some OM left- OM-PC and OM-707 (arguably two systems) But haven't looked at them other than to check if they were still there after the robbery. Should really sell the two bodies and the AF lenses and put the money towards replacing the OM-4 which I really did use on rare occasions (meteor showers)... or better yet, put the money towards a new m43 lens
Have a Stylus 740, again don't use it. Nice and small, but when I want nice and small, it's often dimly light, and the 740 is dismal in low light And anyway, the OM-D is small enough.
Invest in another system? Not interested at this time. If I was being paid and needed higher quality images, I'd buy into what I needed. If I had plenty of spare cash, I'd have multiple systems just because I like to collect/hoard stuff. But as it is, the E-M5 is enough to keep me amused. Just have to fill a perceived gap or two in my lens line up.

Apart from my OM-D, I have (far too?) many film systems and cameras...
The ones I actually end up using are Leica M, Leica R, Rolleiflex 35mm SLR and Pentax 6x7.
Then a digital compact for mountains & trekking (for when even m4/3 is too big & heavy).
When it comes out, I'll buy a full-frame mirrorless in order to use my 35mm film lenses. That would be used more like a "medium format" kit alongside the OM-D (or whatever else I may be using then).

Mine is similar to yours:
OMD, GH2, lenses.
RX100 in my coat at all times
Canon 5D2 bodies and a boatload of lenses.
But, in the last month Ive only used the Canon for some interiors with the 24 TSE II (there is no substitute). Everything else I've shot with M43.

Looking at Sony RX100 recently. Keep an eye on how Sony's full frame will eventually convince me to give up Canon and m4/3 and move to a one system solution.

I have my m4/3 kit:
OM-D, 60mm Macro, 12-50mm, 8mm Fisheye
And my older 4/3 kit:
e520, 12-60, 70-300 and a kit lens somewhere.
Mix and match works well.
