I don't make a point ever of criticizing other people's photos, but you are asking foir criticism so this is how I see it.

If I had taken the shot I would have used landscape mode.  That would show a little more of the interesting beach area.   Also the sea appears to be running downhill.   Try to keep the camera perfectly horizontal when taking shots with a w/a.    You can correct this, of course, in post processing.   Exposure looks spot on and there's good DOF.    Right now I just wish I was there in the warm sunshine!

Nice shot!  Criticism: sometimes it's easier to show than to say (briefly, I levelled the horizon, cloned over the out of focus shells in the immediate foreground, adjusted levels, sharpened, and cropped).

The title of the photograph is "Mount Maunganui".  I wouldn't have guessed that the mountains in the background were the subject of this photograph.

Maybe a little lower to the ground would give better perspective.  I also agree that landscape orientation would be nice.

This photo screams for some more interest in the sky.  If there was a sunset/sunrise in the background that would be nice.

Use a circular polarizer.

Keep the horizon straight.

ArtMar, nice improvement.  The cropping really helps.

Thanks Kevin. I agree with you about the mountain. Here's a version with its prominence enhanced:

I wouldn't assume they are. It's a town (been there!), not just a mountain. This is the beach.

Re: Critism please - beach scene

Your are right its a prominance at the end of the beach and it was taken at ground level. Thanks for you replies
