>>>Saturday B&W Thread - 1/12/2013>>>

Hello Everyone -

I can't believe this is already the second B&W Thread of the New Year. And it just keeps getting better!

It's time again for your monochromes of the week. You may post as little or as many images you wish to share.

The image(s) can be from any camera, you can say what it is if you like. You can also say whether it was an in camera B&W and the mode or what PP software you use if you like.

Reply to this first post and change your subject line to reflect your subject. Please switch to "threaded view" instead of "flat view". I try and respond to all posts, but if your post is not threaded properly I may miss it.

You may include the colour originals if you like for comparison.
It would be nice to hear why you chose B&W instead of colour.

Please be nice and comment on any photos you like. If possible, let's leave a full day for posting of the images and then we can follow up with comments. This should allow more people anopportunityto post an image.

Thanks in advance to all who participate and for making this something to look forward to each week.

Oil/Water & Post-Processing, 1940s style
In reply to snap, 5 months ago

Thought I'd see how some of my oil-on-water pics look in B&W. Most looked beyond boring, but I thought this one might be worth sharing.

And today we call it post-processing, but in the early 1940s it was my mother putting on lipstick and eye makeup after the picture was taken.

Pier Fishing
In reply to snap, 5 months ago

No, they're not fishing for piers. They are fishing FROM the pier.

Jack

No luck yet.

BOAC Speedbird - LX7
In reply to snap, 5 months ago

This is the British Overseas Airways Corporation's "Flying Boat" which was used in the Indiana Jones movie - now on display at Oakland California's Aviation Museum. The worn out seat in the passenger cabin is the actual seat which Harrison Ford sat and the vintage Time Magazine was the prop used by the actor playing the Nazi spy shielding his face with it. In the film the plane had Pan American Clipper Logo plastered on the side. They said there are only two of these planes on display in the world - one in New Zealand and one here in California.

Flying Boat

Manufactured in the city of Cardiff in Wales

Station
In reply to snap, 5 months ago

Yesterday I took the Seattle Light Rail to the airport and stopped off at one of the stations to see if there were any photo opps. Maybe so, maybe not.

An outdoor view

An indoor view

I did the B/W conversion here with Silver Efex Pro and the toning with a solid color overlay in Photoshop.

I like modern architectural vistas like this. I've tried on several occasions to photograph the Westminster underground station in London, which is really very interesting architecturally, but I've never had much success there. No tripods allowed, but the light is moderately good. Maybe my LX7, with its wide, bright lens would be a good tool for the job. One minor problem: I'm not in London now.

Windows & Gum Balls
In reply to snap, 5 months ago

I took a stroll today with my LX7 and shot a bunch of rejects and a few that I kind of like.  PP was done in LR4 and a tiny bit of burning was done on the gum ball shot in PSE 11.

Thanks for looking.  Criticism, comments, critiques and compliments are welcome.

Wow Susan, your Mom is a Bombshell from Hollywood's Golden Era - Glamour and Beauty! Your Dad had a movie studio Model right at home. That is such a beautiful portrait!

I like the abstract Oil & Water - very creative. But your Mother's portrait takes the Crown!

Nice set from your Sony's pocket mini. I like the table by the window image - that's the kind of shot one can only get with a stealth spy camera.

Looks like the anglers are having a nice relaxing day at the pier. I wonder if they caught something for dinner.

LOL!  The caption reads: "Can I have some privacy please?" Another cute capture, Bruno. I won't say more on this like  I  did  with  your  Jacob's  "finger up the nose" shot. But I hope you don't bring your notebook computer in the WC...

Cheers

David, these are really cool. They've got the feel of lithographic prints. I like the textures you've drawn out from these images.

Nice set, Trent. Very artistic B&Ws - I like the Urbex feel of the old building window. The up close Seed Pod of Liquidambar tree and wood textures captured and processed nicely too.
