Well, I am back . . . for better or worse. :)

Due to a very recent decision to go to with 24" x 36" wrap around prints, which requires 28" x 40" prints, I have decided to go home to the full frame D800e. My original decision to stick with the WONDERFUL D7000 was that my prints were routinely 16" x 24". That is no longer the case, as it seems huge wrap-arounds are rapidly becoming the new norm. I will miss the DX forum, but as a photographer, even in retirement, I still desire to sell prints. Imagine.
As an older citizen, of 76, I also choose to not travel thousands of miles for "the shot". Therefore, I will be sticking to the wonderful four corner areas of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado. A great area for scenics.
So guess what? I will be going back to scenics. (Oh no! Yes! Aarrggg) Ghost towns served me well, but every photographer needs to do what he can do. I can no longer travel thousands of miles for a shot.
You can, however, bet your ass that I will give it my all. Goal: 5-10 prints suitable for gallery hanging - per year.
By the way, this was not an inexpensive decision - but, heck, how long do I have? I LOVE photography and everything about it, always have, always will.

At 76 you would have at least ... 24 years - and a few D800's and its variations - you may have to hire a porter (caddy) to carry all your gears but. Even when you're gone your photos remain so shooting way.

You live in a state where you can go on shooting year around and there will not be any dearth of subjects. Now you extend that to Utah, New Mexico and Colorado, you have years worth of subjects waiting for you. Happy shooting.

This is a very interesting reference for the amateurs amongst us, thanks Steve. I always wondered how many outstanding images a real photographer could produce a year.

Welcome back !
Always interesting to read your posts and see your images. Although you are a number of years my senior, I know what it feels like to be somewhat beyond prime physical age - some activities are not so easy anymore, so I really admire and respect you for your determination and strong will.
Happy shooting !

Welcome back, Steve!
We have been missing your knowledge and skills here.
The forum was rapidly going down hill, but the improvement has been dramatic after it became moderated.
The percentage of posters with less photographic experience has been increasing with the popular D800/E and particularly D600.That hopefully assures knowledgeable posters for the near and far future and a sustainable forum. We all began our photographic journey once.
Your participation will definitely be for the better.

forum!
Most people on this forum are nothing more than gear-heads. It's really refreshing to see some really great photography. Your website is full of great info. I have learned a lot from you, especially some PS tricks. Glad to see you back. So much to see and do in the four corners region. There is enough to see and do to keep you busy for a lifetime.

Yep! What I need is a small off-road golf cart!!!!! Either that or a second wife to carry my gear - or wait, that won't work.

. . . I realized the D800e only weighs 1/4 a pound more than my D7000 . . . and I love being spoiled. Just ask my wife.
Started putting together an early spring agenda (March). Blue Canyon ,AZ. No hiking necessary - very important. All suggestions welcome.
