I am used to my 77, but thought I would take my 700 out for a little exercise. I used both cameras and was shocked how much easier the OVF was in getting fast moving subject in the bright sun and snow. Metering has to go with the 77 though, different cameras have their strengths

I will be trying my new combo next week the Nikon D600 & Sigma 80-400 4.5/5.6 Ex Dg Os.

Nice sharp BIF. Yes I agree OVF is easier for tracking flying birds.

Nice series, Gene. I will be curious to know your finding about D600 and its tracking ability. Cheers.

Nice captures Steelhead, nice work on the BIF's, I am going to keep my a77 & a700 and will be selling off my a55 & a550 since I got the Nikon D600 & will build around it.
I agree, the OVF is better for moving objects, used my a77 yesterday and got the freeze frame effect, which I never really notice before.

Hi steelhead3,
Nice shots all!
I'm liking the new DP viewer for looking at them.

Thank you Dennis. I used AF-C for those shots. There were lots of out of focus shots that day. As soon as I switched to AF-D my keeper rate went up again.

Nice shots They are all nice.
You nailed that flying ducky really nicely, but it will become much nicer if you crop it to the left-side, with more space in front of ducky.

My Sigma 500/4.5 APO EX DG is off to the factory. They have an A99 now and think that a circuit board replacement and firmware will improve its compatibility with the A99.
I found a bird guide app for my iphone with looped recordings of bird calls. I let it play the Black-capped Chickadee call and was able to stand feet away from them. Should be interesting to see if it works with others at the bird feeders like Cardinals.

Very nice shots, great eye detail, and another very nice Owl series. So far the D600 is far better in high ISO performance than the a77.
Here is a shot @ ISO 6400 normal NR

I can not get this detail out of the a77 at the same setting as the D600. Red & Yellow Lighting in the Museum.
