doing so poorly. u 4/3 has half the market and Sony less than 20%!?

Sony's brand name is huge in Japan, bigger than Nikon.

At less than 20% market penetration, I think the Sony brass may pull the plug on NEX.

I guess the Memory Stick and Betamax wont be so lonely anymore.

Teedoolph

Love the way you think.

At 21.4 % panasonic is doing great but at 18.4% sony is doomed. By your logic panasonic is also almost doomed because it is just a percent above 20.

::> Knowledge is mother of efficiency.

Panasonic and Oly are essentially the same company when it comes to u 4/3.

you are deluded if you believe it.

Why do you think the never make a competing product?

Like for example when Oly made OM-D , panasonice never made gh3 to compete with it.

GH-3 does not compete with the OM-d.

They appeal to very different consumers.

Every camera compete with another one. For those who bought into m43 , if there was no OMD then they might have bought GH3, same if OMD wasn't there then GH3 was the option. So yes they compete with one another.

Not really.

The Holga does not compete with the GH-3.

See a doctor, you need help.

Can you recomend a good one?

For you, no doctor is good enough.

( You can play this game whole night, )

Yeah, but I can stay up later than you can.

That the Pentax Q also outsold the Sony NEX7 and none of the high priced Fujis even made the top 20?

I think you are rejoicing for the wrong reason.

The OMD is a $1000 camera and it's easy to understand why it would be outsold by cheaper models. Also, Olympus has several models while Pentax has only one (wait, I think they now have a second one too.) In any case, don't get too excited about Pentax "doing better than the OMD in absolute sales numbers."

I'm sure Pentax would prefer to be selling OM-Ds rather than Qs.....

Agreed.

I thought the Nikon 1 was going to be a big flop.

But Nikon seems to understand the consumer very well.

Coolpix may be destroyed by the cell phone camera but Nikon 1 will upgrade the Coolpix customer who doesn't care about DOF control-

probably the vast majority of people who buy digital cameras.

Nikon hit a home run here and Canon wiffed big time.

TEdolph

Erm the Nikon 1 has been a big flop....

How so?

Tedolph

I'm a little lost with that one as well Ted. Well considering its at number one with the OP.

Wonder if he will explain that one or keep us guessing

Danny.

The Nikon 1 was suppose to have 50% market share within 6 months.

Its been a costly 4 years in development.

Units didn't start moving until a 60% price drop was introduced just 7 months after launch.

Nikon 1 users are not buying additional lenses or accessories.

Frequent reports of poor customer satisfaction and usage.

The Nikon 1 has been out manoeuvred by most of the competition.

Poor outlook for Nikon 1 in 2013

Tedolph, I was just pulling your leg ... although it is still debatable where the Oly-Pana partnership/competition is going. It will be interesting to see where they are in a few years.

There is no doubt that the OM-D is a great success for Oly regardless of the actual sales number. It is the cam that finally put m4/3rds on the big boys' table.

As for Sony, I bet they are happy with the acceptance of the NEX system. The numbers are very solid

I'm actually just shocked that Nikon said they would have 50% of the market. Very strange for a company like Nikon to stab at something like that.

It would be shocking if Nikon had said something that dumb. But they never did. Can't believe everything you read from anonymous posters on the Internet.

If you're doubtful, ask him to cite his source -- that is, provide a link, so we can read it, and judge, for ourselves. There is no source.

Quote from Thom Hogan
" What that means long term is that competitors have a chance to blunt the attack. If I’m reading Nikon’s forecasts correctly, it appears as if they think they’ll sell as many of their mirrorless cameras as Olympus or Panasonic within the first six months of its appearance. We’ll see if that’s true. But with a two+ year head start, that’s not what should happen with a truly successful new product category.!"

Thanks for providing a link to your source. Of course, if Nikon had been able to capture even 1/4 of the mirrorless market by now, I think most people would have considered it a success (regardless of failing to meet an overinflated prediction).

I agree that the Nikon 1 leaves much to be desired and that Nikon had to hold a fire sale to unload the J1 & V1 just before releasing the J2/V2. The pricing on the new models suggests that Nikon is still overpricing the 1s. There is some good technology in these cameras, especially the high frame rate. However, I agree that they will likely fail, or become a small niche product, but I also think that a failure of the 1 will force Nikon to bring out a different mirrorless camera.
