New Applications are online!

As the headline says there is few new applications onlin. Although just two are real apps.

https://www.playmemoriescameraapps.com/portal/

Hope somebody will find this information interesting.

I will try to install them now. I am expecting the Timelaps function to be very limited, but I will see soon.

$10 for time lapse

$5 for cinematic photo

Gee, Thanks Sony.

A little more information and support would me nice. For example, users had to go through trial and error to see if bracket pro ($5) and multi frame NR ($5) would work with raw--it doesn't--and we are left to wonder what file types are supported by time lapse and what exactly this "hybrid video" is for the cinematic photo.

I think it's an interesting concept... BUT! NOT for this prices!

I am willing to pay for good additional apps, but I am not willing to pay over 1'000 bucks for the cam and prices like 10 bucks for a single app...

no thanks, sony

$10  for an application announced in advertising of the camera and that I can not buy in my country? I'm a little disappointed with Sony this time ...

Cmon guys seriously!? How much does an intervalometer cost alone? 10$ for a wireless one is a Steal!! If you guys were referring to the "Cinematic Photo" i can understand but 10$ to unlock Timelapse capablilties is a no brainer IMO

Once someone has tested it out I'd like to hear how efficiently the app uses the battery.

Actually 10$ is a subjective price while personally I think its a bit overpriced for a mobile app and the only reason behind it is the demand they expect it to have.

What is fairly disappointing is the way Sony seems to take the approach of apps, which is another proprietary way to milk their customers by extracting firmware features and serving them as an app.I am surprised that they didn't remove HDR and sell it as an extra app to begin with.

Giving open SDK would allow advanced users create their own app for their needs while inexperienced would pay for the overpriced Sony ones, and add longevity on the ecosystem as well as flexibility.Lets hope someone is working on a way to jailbreak the device.

I was set to make an IR intervalometer trigger using Arduino but waited until the official app was included to see what it would offer. With 1.5$ for the Attiny or 3$ for the ATMEGA,1$ the IR led and varying prices on components the total cost wont go over 10$ while the time-lapse video to be created on computer with the flexibility it entails. For HDR and mechanical button trigger mechanism as well automatic battery swap the cost increases because of the servos but that's for the very select few.

this feature came built into the Nikon D200 back in 2005. I picked up my D200 new in 2008 for $500

OTOH, monetizing apps might give Sony extra motivation to actively develop new features. Removing features that existed in previious model's FW and selling them as apps would be a nasty move, but offering extra functionality for small change is basically ok for me.

Personally though, I think that $10 is a bit too steep for a feature I would rarely use so I probably won't be getting the timelapse. Maybe I would at a discounted price, who knows.

Just downloaded timelapse.

The app has lots of customization options, including preset modes for city lights, miniature, sunsets, sunrise, cloudy sky, night sky etc.

You can use your PASM modes, which is a huge plus and set your interval time

For WHATEVER REASON, the file format can only saved as AVI video, which is odd because the NEX uses MP4 and AVCHD for its own video modes.

You can decide between 24 frames a second, 30 frames a second or just keep the photos.

You can start a self timer of two seconds or start shooting immediately

Shooting intervals can be set between 1 to 60 seconds, choosing single second increments up to 10 seconds per shot--after 10 seconds, you can only set for increments of 5 seconds.

You also set your total shots in increments of 30 shots up to 990 shots

The camera will show you the final duration of your video with each setting change.

Quite a few options, but 10 bucks is pricey for something that was advertised as being a "feature" of the NEX-6 during promotions.

Note: Vello screen protector for NEX-6 (advertised for NEX-7). Fits perfectly!

Well that statement says it all.  If you won't use timelapse or have little interest in exploring timelapse, then it is not worth $10.

However, if you're like me and have never tried timelapse photography and find it quite interesting, then it's a easy decision.  $10 dollars, really, that's the cost of a sandwich.  Hardly a rip off I would say.  If you are reading these forums and have a NEX camera, chances are $10 will not hurt your wallet too badly.

Thanks for the excellent report.
While I was hoping $5 for all apps, at least it has tons of options and to be honest, I rather have this option than none at all. I remember buying a cheapo samsung Camcorder once that had the option and I loved it but I bought a Canon to replace it cause of much better video quality and was very disappointed that at 5 times the cost, it had no such option...would gladly had paid $10 to add it

Thanks for the excellent info! If you choose to keep the stills, will it save the RAW (if you have RAW selected elsewhere in the camera that is)?

I'm guessing that the videos are 1080p. Is that right?

The MFNR is included in every SLT, even the cheap ones, but for the NEX app we have to pay! I would bet that in future SLT (with app functionality) it will be available as extra app only...

I was hoping it would have been $4.99 for the time lapse.

Still, the app looks pretty decent and it's still a lot cheaper than a poor quality intervalometer.

At the end of the day, I'm a pretty happy camper.
