Just wondering.  If you regret your purchase, please state your reason.  Many thanks.

I don't think you're going to get much usable information.  Today's camera retail system gives everyone 30 days to return a camera they regret buying.  There should be a very small group that regret their choice AND keep the camera.

But OP didn't ask if they regretted it and kept it.  He asked if they regretted buying it.  Obviously, if someone returned it they must have regretted it for some reason.

Had mine since July...not a single regret...you need to  learn to use this camera to know how

good it is within its technical limitations.

I'm not trying to find fault with the RX100.  I just known from my own personal experience that sometimes after the newness of a purchase wears off buyer's regret can set in and I can begin to see faults or shortcomings with a product that were not readily apparent at the time of purchase.

No regrets.

The slippery case is easily remedied with one of the add-on grips or stick-on leather skins.

I'm kinda on the fence as well...  the 2 things that have me concerned are the rumored 'dust collecting on the sensor' and the lens IS not very good.  Any comments on these issues?

make sure you understand your needs and uses

Why you need to have the RX100 in the first place?

I bought it to complement my FF and MFT gear

It's used whenever the other 2 are just too cumbersome or too obtrusive to carry around

it's kept with me all the time like some with their iPhone

It's small enough to even place it in a pocket or carry around the waist

the IQ is awesome and the flash real handy

I got a lot of mileage out of it, more so than my other gear, what to regret?

It may be a bit on the expensive side but no other mfgs has produced something like this so Sony 's the right to 'monopolize' I presume

cheers

No regrets here.  I bought the RX100 for its IQ and manual capabilities in a very pocketable form.  It was bought to be a supplement to my Nex-7 that I could carry along with me in a suit (at work) or jeans pocket (while out and about).

The only thing I added was a Franiec grip for comfort.

NEX 6 vs RX100
In reply to NeilJones, 5 months ago

Well this certainly raises the question of why you sold it after only three months. In response to another poster I'm looking for something with better IQ than my present Panasonic ZS3 to supplement my 7D. It's boiled down to either the RX100 or the NEX 6 with the 16-50 kit lens.  Anyone here have experience with both?

You want the NEX 6...............
In reply to Clem Nichols, 5 months ago

There is one (and only one) reason to buy a RX100:

You want the highest IQ pocket camera.

If you do not want or do not need a pocket camera then there are better choices out there.

My take is that if you are asking then the raison d'etre of the RX100 is not apparent (or not important) to you.

Get a NEX or a Fuji in that case.

We needed a new pocket compact to replace a Canon S95.  Was going to save some money and buy a Canon S110 but splurged for the RX100.   Totally glad we went with the RX100.

This camera would be used mostly by my wife taking photos our of children.  We always like to have a pocket compact to leave in her purse.  With the auto modes (e.g. Auto Macro, Auto scenes if desired) this camera is working wonders as my wife simply knows to turn it on and shoot.

So far a very high % of the photos taken even in difficult conditions have come out fantastic.

Now that we have a Sony LCD protector and Franiec grip installed it is almost the ideal pocket camera.  Sure an RX1 would be nice but it's a bit big and FAR too expensive for us to carry around without worrying about dropping and breaking $2000 worth of camera.  Not to mention my young kids like to play photographer at times.

For our use, this is absolutely perfect!

Nope....it's the best pocket camera available imho.  I love the terrific IQ and low light capabilities.

Sony has a real winner in the RX100.

I've only had my RX100 for a few days, but I'm almost ready to say it's better than my NEX.  Granted it's an original NEX 3, but still that's quite an accomplishment for what is really a P&S camera.  For purely taking pictures and not playing with lenses, I think the RX100 is all the camera I need or want.  I already got rid of all my DSLRs due to my mirrorless cameras.  I just might have to get rid of all my mirrorless cameras now that I have the RX100.  Well, all but one NEX so that I can still play with all my lenses.

I just purchased the RX100 in Canada. I notice the body is slippery, where do you find/buy the Franiec grip you mentioned?
