Should I sell my D600?
|
I'm not using it as much now because of all the smaller high quality camera's I own and I also have the Sony Rx1 on the way.
Just wondering if you guys think I would miss it?
i just feel these big bulky cameras are on the way out.
Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.

only you know what your needs are. If you are happy with the level of photo you get out of your smaller cameras and you are not using your D600 much (from the info you provided) I would guess you really don't need the camera. the fact that you are thinking about selling it is also a good indicator you don't need it, I personally would not be without one for how I use a camera.

Absolutely sell it. You'll do fine with your kind of images with a smaller camera. And best of all, you'll have to go to a different forum to strut your stuff.
God bless and good luck.

The D600 is great. It's helped me get some of the wonderful pictures i've posted here. But i've also got some killer stuff with smaller cheaper camera's.
From the reviews that are starting to come in (a great one from that master Steven Huff) the RX1 images look like possibly being even better than the D600!
I don't want to wait too long and lose out on a good price now if everyone starts bailing once the RX1 is released and we see what it can really do.
Decisions, decisions.

I'd at least stick it out a while. The RX1 looks stellar but there isn't a comprehensive review on it just yet. Not to mention there's lot more versatility with an slr.

I would not worry about that, not the same category

The RX1 is a fixed lens camera, it is not going to hurt D600 sales. perhaps you are new to the DSLR camera, and the RX1 might fit your needs, if so great. Most will not want a fixed focal length camera as a replacement for a D600. Even if the picture quality was better on the RX1,.. the D600 will beat it at 16 in a tight room, or at 200 at a shot of a bird or child playing soccer.
Decisions, decisions.

Neil the first question you need to answer is why you want a full frame, then you need to ask yourself why you want a fixed lens Sony RX1, then you want to ask yourself why an I not looking at a OMD-EM5 or a NEX-7. Much more versitile than the Sony RX1. For that price you don't get an optical or an OLED viewfinder. Might want to wait for the RX2 if you really want one. You could always sell the D600 and if you want buy another one when the prices drops. I hear that they have dropped a lot in Europe, so they might drop in the US.
Take a look here for some smaller and sharper cameras:

I'd keep the D600, I think you'd miss it it the long run, it's a fantastic camera.
I debated for 2-3 weeks between the RX1 and D600 before buying the D600. I'd already dipped my toes in the, go smaller, route having had the Nex5 and Nex7. They were good but none gave me the satisfaction of a full size SLR. Sometimes it's just nice to grab something substantial and shoot rather than fiddle about with something petite. The fixed 35mm on the RX1 was also a limiting factor, for me. If you like the 35mm focal length great but if I were in your position I'd buy the 35mm f1.4G and save some money.

You are Obviousely a very talented photographer and I think you may need to think differently about how you compose your image given the fixed lens, but the RX1 is a very compelling camera.
I know exactly how you feel, DSLR's are heavy and bulky but there will always be a trade off when you go smaller, if you can live with those compromises then give it a go.
however you will lose the flexibility, particularly with restricted focal length.
there is no perfect camera, just choose the one that's nearest to your essential criteria.

Ian, you answered the wrong post. Click on the one you are replying to, not the last in the thread. You answer is an answer to me, like if I was asking the question. I don't even have a D600 and not have a Sony on the way and also not count myself talented. In other words, I asked no question which needs an answer.

I don't see why you would sell the D600. If you feel the camera is on the way out wait til its replacement comes and them reconsider.
I do have a suggestion though, and I don't know how you will take it.
You may have noticed that sometimes your posts rub people the wrong way. You might consider toning down your references to your own capabilities. Whether you are a magician or a plugger, it is rarely appealing to read self promotion.
Just my 2 cents...

not sure what your talking about here. When do I rub people up the wrong way?
