D800E - Extrem usage in Greenland - Gallery

Hi everyone
As a professional Landscape Photographer (http://www.stefanforster.com) you always have to do things that no other photographers have done before; so I decided to buy a Sea Kayak and explore the remotest coasts of South- and West-Greenland on my own.
For this expedition I used two Nikon D800E with the following lenses:
- Nikkor 16-35 F4 G VR
- Nikkor 24-120 F4 VR (very universal for this expedition)
- Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 VR II
- 1.4x Converter
The first problem I had at the check-in desk in Switzerland where I had to pay f... 2500 Euro excess baggage for the kayak and the whole camera gear. On all of my about 60 flights per year the've never checked the weight of my carry-on baggage but on this they did :/
Well, after I arrived in Greenland I built up my kayak and immediately put out to sea. On the following two weeks I experienced incredible things. The Nikon D800E survived the harshest weather conditions and even huge water splashes could not affect them. Finally, both cameras and even me had luckily survived this expedition

First day at the southcoast of Greenland - Water temperature +1 Degrees Celsius - D800E - 16-35 F4
Because of my disrespectful way I almost lost my life two times... As a photographer I always wanted to get close to the icebergs. As you can imagine, icebergs can collapse or roll over without warning. So I was always a few meters away from the icebergs while some of them collapsed. BUT due to this fact I could make never seen photographs of wonderful Greenlandic icebergs.
Have fun watching the pictures; more on my website - http://www.stefanforster.com
Best regards and photographic greetings
Stefan
I hope you enjoyed viewing some of my photographs. Next year I'll explore the Mount Everest area, the island La Réunion, the Seychelles, and many more. If I've time I certainly will inform you guys... Stay informed with facebook - http://www.facebook.com/StefanForsterPhotography
D800E - in the last few month I made over 50'000 pictures with my D800E's and I never had any problems; so I can recommend this camera even for extreme usage.

...for these wonderful images and for the story.
Which company did you fly with? I mean, if you paid that much then your hand luggage must have been very heavy... or the company was a "low price" company, charging nothing for the ticket but for everything else a lot.

Thank you too...
I flew with Air Greenland. The Problem was the weight of the Kayak. I had to pay 25 Kilos extra for the Feathercraft Kayak and the 22 Kg for the Cameragear - so all together 47 Kilos extra baggage. The travel agency told me that the Kayak will be declared as a sport equipment. But the lady of Air Greenland Check-in did not think so. Bad for me - good for them
Have a great day...
