Post your pics of colour an BOKEH.

Isolating subjects from the background is not easy.
But you can achive it with distance to the background, lighting and colour.
This pic was shot with not a very wide aperture with a tele (oops sinned again) but I think the difussion of the background and the bokeh are nice.
Also the colors I think.
Will apreciate opinions, only if you post your own samples.
It is easy to critique others without exposing your own pics for reciprocity. Fair treat.
No more seriously, will like to see nice portraits with good, creamy and colourful bokeh just for the pleasure of contemplation.
The background here reminds me of the paintings of Sorolla, a Spanish painter.
Side note: I posted this on the m43 forum to demonstrate that good background isolation can be achieved even with small sensors and apertures of 5.6.

Nice picture and background, but the hair is very distracting and spoils the whole thing. Vic

Next time I will try to wait until the breeze calms or tell my daughter to go to the hairdresser.

That is what I meant by "Post your pics of colour and bokeh...."
Great pics.
#1 #5 and #7 are my favorites. GREAT.
Come on, continue with more
"creamy and colourful bokeh just for the pleasure of contemplation".

Great. I like them a lot. #5 is gorgeous.
I know it is not only the gear BUT THE ONE THAT IS BEHIND that achieves great results, but for curiosity what was the lens used, the 70-200 nikkor?
Money (great lenses) does not make you happy on its own, but helps a lot....ha...ha

Thanks. You are right, it was taken with 70-200 VRII.

I don't have access to a lot of my pictures right now, and I haven't posted in these forums in a while. Your Post caught my eye so here is my response:
I definitely agree that your subject has been isolated from the background. The bokeh is quite pleasant in nature, especially from the camera you were using. It really surprises me that it can produce these results at f/5.6. Skin tones aren't too bad either, if you ask me, considering your subject was directly in the sunlight.
Here is my photo taken with the best digital camera yet produced in my opinion, the Nikon D700:
Nikon D700 with Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8
Wish I could post more of my photos. I am a huge bokeh guy

Thanks.
Really good pic.
I also sigh when I think of the nikon 700. Will the D600 match it ? It is smaller and lighter I think, so that goes in it´s favour
Suppose I have to wait some time before I can afford it (at least in my ethical way when spending money in hobbies), and therefore hope the D600 will still be in market.
Of course it is easier to have shallow DOF with specific tools like a Nikon 85 1.8 (afs) even with the humble D5100. Well at least in my opinion.

I don't mean to kill anyone's thunder, but some of this blur looks post processed. The foreground on the left is substantially blurred compared to that on the right and immediately around the figures. The bokah level within the focal planes are not consistent.

I read the title and expected to see crutches...
In reply to joseluisherranz,

Pictures that are rather unimpressive and really only stand on the merits of the "boke" crutch that is.
I wasn't disapointed.
Instead of obsessing on boke, spend a little bit of time learning to compose so the person actually resides well in the frame, as opposed to having a limb chopped off the side of the frame. Learn to setup the shot so the person is not being hit with harsh, direct sunlight that causes bad shadows and blownout spots. Learn to work with the light so that it causes separation between the subject and the background, then you don't have to rely on boke so completely and you can actually show a portrait of a person *at* a location; instead of a person laid on top of a *smeared* location.
Finally, learn to wait and take a *compelling* shot, not just a shot where the person is standing in a spot that suits well to getting a whole lot of blurry in the background. You know, smiling at the camera wouldn't hurt. Or at least wait until they pull the hair out of their face.
Sorry if all this seems too harsh. But the reality is that there is almost nothing good about that picture.
My number one suggestion, spend time to learn how to make compelling photos with extremely deep dof, such that there is no difference in sharpness between the main subject and the background. Then when you can do that you can *choose* to use boke for added effect, instead of always having to use it as a crutch.

No thunder killed. Yes, the background does have some processing applied to it. It's my style. As a photographer, it's my responsibility to create art and pieces that people never get tired of looking at. This was created for my client's wall, not for critique. My clients don't usually come to me for natural pictures taken straight from my camera.
I'm curious, was the bokeh plane differential really the first thing you noticed or were you peeping just a little bit?

I did notice it off right away BUT understand your talking to a bunch of photographers that PP and edit photos to There will not be a single client that wouldn't be happy with that photo. I'm sure you took a great photo and improved it 10 fold in PP. Thats the art of it and thats why we get paid the bucks Well done!
