So what if people post pictures in a gear forum?!?!? Who the hell really cares?
I mean....are the stars now out of alignment?!? REALLY?!?!?
Get yer panties un-twisted.....
They put a little picture icon and the name of the original poster on EVERY post. If you don't want to look at pictures....look for the icon....and move on.
If you don't like a certain poster....look for the name and ....yep...YOU GUESSED IT.
MOVE ON!!
I think secretly some of you LIVE to see a post you think is incorrect or not perfectly in alignment for what you think this forum is about....AND LOVE TO Respond. You secretly love people like Neil.
You know who you are....its easy to tell....your the ones that don't take the advice above and MOVE ON. Its easy to spot....when you get your knickers in a twist...you feel pressure in your neither regions.
Y'all have a great holiday season....and for the few who think they OWN the forum....drink a little grog and........
Common...you know the movie

You would obviously would not mind if someone took a dump on living room carpet when the bathroom is just down the hall. Something about common courtesy is lacking here. When those that follow the rules are the only ones the rules apply to.
Nobody really minds a couple of posts like you describe, but the postings are daily and meant for nothing more than personal glorification and just clutter the forum with cow dung.

LOL...why...because the few self proclaimed forum police might hurl a few typed words at me?
Their ideas only have as much power as my mind gives them.

Absolutely!
And Roman, what we have on this forum is "serial" cow dungers, they are here for ONE purpose only - to spam us with ridiculous images not worthy of most Coolpix users (i.e. Karl T.), then they sit back and watch the fireworks go off with everyone taking sides and going at each others throats. Meanwhile, the opening posters are laughing their arses off, one inparticular a self-described full-time comedian.
So, yes, your point is valid indeed, we all should IGNORE the spammers and concentrate on the people who contribute positive information, but that is easier said than done when they start one inane, ignorant thread after another, ad nauseum. I think that's all most of us are trying to say about Neil Jones, he is strictly a buffoon and here only for the laughs. But it galls us when anyone takes him seriously and that's when the urge to call him out for what he is becomes irresistible. And, yes, some of us get really creeped out by his forum-stalking.
But sorry if all of this offends you Roman, you are a sterling example for all of us.

Agree, to be honest I couldn't care less - I don't mind seeing the odd picture but I don't think people should constantly use this as their own photographic showcase either. Since you mentioned Neil - he was deliberately trolling (just look at his replies). His replies are the definition of trolling and I believe that is against the rules here...

Ok...so you are comparing this to someone actually taking a dump on my living room carpet?
For that to be true...that reveals two disturbing truths.
1. That you live here. (while fun...who wants to spend THAT much time here?)
2. That you are truly think that someone posting a picture here is like taking a dump.
Are you really that vested in what happens here...or do you have a normal life that has actual photography and gear involved in it.
Again...they ARE posted who the OP is and if there is a picture involved. Are you that weak that you cant just move on?
No....don't tell me...its like a shiny red button you can't resist pushing....right?
Nobody really minds a couple of posts like you describe, but the postings are daily and meant for nothing more than personal glorification and just clutter the forum with cow dung.
And you fall prey to it so easily when all the identifying markers are there?
I would hope you aren't that simple. That your brain functions at a much higher level than that.

Wonder how many times you have to RE-ACT to his threads giving him what he craves. You keep reacting...he keeps posting.
Hummmmmmmm....methinks I see a pattern here?

I do understand yoru argument....never said I didnt.
But I also understand that if he truly is trolling...you are giving him the energy he craves.

Metaphorically, as this is where my TECHNICAL needs get some resolution.
2. That you are truly think that someone posting a picture here is like taking a dump.
Are you really that vested in what happens here...or do you have a normal life that has actual photography and gear involved in it.
I do have a normal life that has two FX bodies and a DX body and several high dollar lenses.
I just don't have such low self esteem that I need to get gratification here by posting every photo that I take. And I will tell you that I take a boatload more crappy photos than good ones. I just don't have the need to throw that in the face of people that come here for information. If I did I would go to one of the photo forums instead where it is expected.
Again...they ARE posted who the OP is and if there is a picture involved. Are you that weak that you cant just move on?
No....don't tell me...its like a shiny red button you can't resist pushing....right?

My brain works at quite a high level. And at times it feels the need to speak out and object to be trampled on. I follow the rules, and I expect everyone else to do the same. I use the bathroom down the hall. And if you don't then you get called out, period.

This thread gave me a good laugh. Roman is playing forum cop and telling everyone not to be forum cops. While I agree that the best way to deal with Karl and Neil is to ignore them, I just have to laugh at how Roman is doing exactly what he is complaining about. Move on, Roman. Move on.

Not doing what I complained about...just saying you have an option. People respond to the posts over and over again. It's not rocket science.

I guess it depends on how you feel about shameless self promotion. There is a time and place. I wouldn't come to a wedding you were shooting and hand out my wedding photographer card because it would be wrong. It's about ethics. Most of the photographers here come to talk shop and obviously we can all have a "who's D**k is the biggest contest" but posting pictures where people are congregating to view them is the norm and follows a code of respect. Some people post pictures here but talk about the tech of the shot, bring you in on the technique incorporating the usage of gear we are all discussing which can be informative to prospective buyers and owners of said gear alike and that is great. I don't really care all that much but having so many threads about this is a bit frustrating and reading through the whining is a joke so why not enforce the rules so that chaos can be somewhat averted. I'm starting to get the feeling NeilJones is a multiple personality who has like 50 dpreview accounts and all these threads are just him arguing with himself haha! Happy holidays
