Post your Birds, Pets, wild, borrowed, blue...

Hey, the Pets thread was a good one. But lots of us try shooting birds so lets give it a go!
Pitch in here, I know some are real pros at this, I'm trying to have FUN!
I joined the Audubon Society when I was 11 or so. Those magazines and the photos thrilled me. I spent hours laying on the floor looking at birds. All my life I loved them, fed them and watched them. Sorry to say chemo killed and BROKE (another thing totally) my upper hearing. So if you look at a piano, you can hit the top 14 white keys as hard as you like, I don't hear them. I miss that part. I do hear ducks and geese though, and the ducks are migrating through right now, I say Thousands of Mallards yesterday at dusk.

The blue jay hop!
Now if you have a dead parrot, please post gently. Deceased? Sleeping? (One of my favourite skits...the best humour in my mind..what's left of it.)
HAVE FUN! Take pictures...that's fun. With a Capital F.

Dead parrot reference very funny. Nice bird series, lovely capture of the blue jay colors.
I usually have a horrible time trying to capture birds, my lens is never long enough and moving in closer, they hear me and fly away

Patience I think. I too like to move around and crash like a drugged moose. At one time when I weighed 250 pounds and was 'muscle' bound I suppose I was. Now I'm lean and lurching, need a pole to stay upright, and one hand on the camera.
Wow, the weather is going from 10C to 0C in a few hours and the wind gust from my window looked like it would topple some of my trees. Anything but that!
Red Tail Hawk at Dusk, as close as I might get, a pond was in the way.
I like the sort of spooky image here, somewhat evocative or something...

Both cool shots. Those wild turkeys are everywhere here, you see them, then you can't find one. The shotguns are scaring them now! I saw 14 on the side of the road with no camera the other day, right in a suburb. I hear them in the bush, but no sightings.
The second bird I don't see here. But he's way cute. Or she, sorry.
Thanks for sharing.
OH, by the way, the hawk shot, Sigma 400mm, a very old creaky lens that I cannot easily seem to focus manually, but the camera does sometimes get it right. It can hunt though, but never comes back with wildlife!

Nice shots, guys. The red headed bird is very cool, I guess I have to get a book out, don't recognize it at all.

Holy Cow! Great shots. Lovely. Nice to see cameras being used to capture nature. And it's great to see the emphatic push to make conservation areas and policies everywhere.
Thanks for sharing. I bet you can print a calendar with your shots. Wonderful stuff.

Nothing too special here. I switched to sony two weeks ago and am still familiarizing myself with the equipment.
I had problems with finger stiffness and shivers since it was -22C (-7.6F) with windchill yesterday, but obviously my tripod helped a lot.

Thanks for looking. C&C always welcome.

The DOF in the first shot makes the two birds appear to be 'kissing'. Kinda cool. Is there a market to sell photos way up there? I almost went to work up there, I was a Production Foreman, and well every other kind of foreman for the Forest Industry, and lived between Manitouwadge and Geraldton in a camp with my family when the company was sold off in pieces. I ended up moving to my home town and taking a job as a firefighter, and staying. Our northern property east of New Liskeard was my retirement gig, but cancer changed that and I can't leave my doctors.
Nice Images....I'll get to the blog later.

I'm going to title it "Romeo & Juliet". The title is ironic because the birds are fighting. I'm pretty sure one bird is going for the other's eye.

Maybe. I've sold a couple photos and had some enquiries after showings in the local museum, but I haven't pursued sales. For me photography is just a hobby; with the odd paid gig here and there.

Sorry to hear about your health. Hopefully things will get back on track some day.

More pictures than blog. I started writing right before I switched systems so I stalled out while I was busy selling equipment.
I'm hoping write about on my experience with the new gear this weekend.

Thanks for the response. I'd be hard pressed not to get the train the Churchill, but I guess it's tough to get a place to stay at the top end. The end of the month drive north of Temagami is going to be great, or so I hope. Of to some family birthday party that does not excite me, except my Dad is doing it and I have to support him. Oh well. Once can't like all the sister in laws...I've got 6.
A few beers is in order to ease the pain....
Makes me want to sing that old arctic tune, "When the ice worms nest again..."

Three recent shots. The first 2 are from the same day. The last one a few days later. I think it's the same hawk though.
