XF1: 9th Fuji camera added to the collection

I swore I'd never buy another EXR camera. Oh well, perhaps this is the last one. I'm sure the haters will continue to spread the lie that I am nothing but an anti Fujifilm troll. I laugh in their face.

Some random shots from my new XF1:

Wow! nice shots. How are you enjoying the camera?

I have been waiting for xf1 in Korea. Are images similar/ better/

worse than x10? Does the new menu system work for you?

I find it both good and bad.

The GOOD:

Small.  I needed a pocket camera and this thing fits in my pocket easily.  Much smaller than my X10.

No ORBS.  I gave it an orb torture test and it did pretty well.

The menus.  Very nice improvement to the menu system.  Makes the X10 feel well out of date.

The BAD:

Very cheap feeling lens.  Worst lens by far as far as feeling goes.  The X10 lens feels very high quality.  The XF1 feels tinny and fragile.

Super slow lens.  f/1.8 lasts almost never.  As soon as you zoom in, you find yourself at f/4 REAL fast.

The on/off switch is awful.  You can tell how stupid it is with Fujifilm's instructions.  They had THREE sets of instructions on how to turn the camera on.  The manual, a separate handout, and a sticker on the camera.  it's just stupid. And VERY fragile feeling.  I doubt this will last for years.

That's it so far. Have not had a serious chance to shake it out yet.  More later.

You need to rename yourself X-Man.

Although the lens feels fragile it may not be any more fragile than a typical F series camera lens. The difference is you have to handle it all the time.

Is it sharp?

i think i agree with what others wrote about this camera that although the inside is supposed to be the same as the x10, the image quality seems not the same.

maybe it's the greyish weather. side by side comparison would be interesting.

Good observation.

Seems so, but i'm just getting started.

The weather here is terrible.  Worst time of year for photography in Shanghai.

Still using the old F70exr around here and to be honest..I think I'll sit this one out maybe an X20 next year if they nail down some of the quirks.

I can see the appeal of the XF1, but it's priced too high for my tastes.

Unfortunately this looks like the F200 update as the F series has become rather second rate which is a shame.

I'd love this sensor in an F200 body I can live without the retro them. Though the X10 is nicely build I have to say, I can't see why you'd pass on that for this though bar smaller size.

XF1 is no F200 update, it is too fancy and expensive and has zoom only up to 100 mm, not 140 like F200, big difference in usability and appeal as a pocket camera. Still no real F200 successor from Fuji.

The XF1 has 25mm at the wide end and f/1.8.  I would take that over 140mm, which is useless to me (not much different from 100mm).  XF1 also has a much higher useable ISO.

Fujifilm NEVER nails down the quirks.  Your wait has no end.

I shot my wife's F70EXR for the first time in a loong time.  Wow, that camera is ancient and primitive.  I am very glad I moved on from that.  Horrible ISO800 too.

I can see the appeal of the XF1, but it's priced too high for my tastes.

3rd rate...but who's counting?

Smaller size means a LOT.  I have both the X10 and XF1. Only one fits into my pocket/computer bag easily.

What about the fancy and expensive part? 140 mm is not much different for you, but for me it is a big difference.  F1.8 is just a teaser on XF1. F200 was a practical, utilitarian compact with money spent where it matters, not on a stupid lens contraption which means having to use the small camera with two hands always.

If F70 is ancient and primitive, you deserve all the new fancy X Fuji's you buy. Marriage made in heaven...

A quick crop and I have 140mm.  Very easy.

Still no explanation how is XF1 a successor of F200. Or why it has to be fancy and expensive.

'A quick crop' and you can have 1,000mm if you like - but it's not a compelling justification.

140mm versus 100mm is a big difference - it's the difference equivalent to doubling/halving the mega-pixel count of an sensor/image.

Can you shoot the XF1 at 270 mm? Or you have to buy F600 for that and enjoy the benefits of good modern Fuji with that great lens, special effects lens flare and have good ISO 1600?

Wow, I was not even aware that it amounts to that much difference in MP. It just seems very substantial to me comparing the FOV directly, I just did that recently in a store comparing the G15 (also 140 mm) with XF1.
