We had the customary 2 minutes silence today accross the UK, it's odd when you are in a large shop such as Toys R Us and everyone is silent for those 2 minutes, it really is a nice touch to remember those that fought for us throughout time!

Here in our little town of Mesquite, NV we celebrate all veterans with "1000 Flags Over Mesquite".  The flags were set up last Sunday and have been on display until today's closing ceremony.

Thanks to all veterans and their families for their service and their sacrifices!

Individuals can sponsor flags and dedicated them to veterans, living and dead.

That is awesome.  Great thought for remembrance.  I'm not healthy enough to have attended our serviices at the Cenotaph this morning but my Daughter and Husband did and there was huge crowds.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, I wish more had.

Boston had a parade today. Mostly ROTC from local high schools and a couple of American Legion ppsts. Only real military appearance where two National Guard Humvees.

As always, watched the Cenotaph ceremony on TV. Very moving. And inspiring with interviews from injured veterans and families.

I always tape our ceremony from our capital in Ottawa so I can look at when I get home from our ceremonies.

Thanks

It was a moving ceremony in our church this am --- Sydenham Street United in Kingston, Ontario. --- Not only were the names of those from our congregation who perished read out, this year someone had found thir photos (most of them) and where they had died and projected the images for all to see.  Wonderful shots of many of the memorial graveyards in Europe.  As well, the bulletin describing the service featured a Christmas menu form 1917 in the trenches which had been kept all these years.  Lest we forget.

Can't march with the others I'm too slow but did show the uniform and medals, the wreaths were shorter, no need for the n mothers aux of the 33rd guide troop, then the daughters of whoever.  Last year they laid 73, this year only   15 or so, the others in advance.  Now there were not 15 cadets on the ground.

thank you cc for a reminder and thank you for your service in defending democracy with your country.after all the horrors of war and the toll its taken on families and loved ones...one would think after the second world war that war would remain apart of history...sadly people enjoy power and control at the expense of their fellow men women and children.."to hell with them"...on a side note,in vietnam the soldiers used to have their zippo lighters 'customized' with emblems, sayings pictures ect...one lighter had on it/'yea though i walk  through the valley of the shadow of death i shall fear no evil...for i am the evilest sonofabitch in the valley''...thanks again and god bless, brian
