I pimped my OMD...

I picked up an original 70's OM system camera strap for my OMD. It's a nicely made and very comfortable strap that adds a little classic touch to the OMD. It's very well made and considering it's age, is in very nice condition.

There is also some method to my madness. Most modern camera straps are not designed to be removed from the camera easily. This presents a problem when mounting the camera on a tripod when there is a bit of a breeze. The camera strap blows about and causes vibration, especially if you are using a lightweight tripod as I do. These straps come in two parts, the main strap has clips on it which enables you to take it off just leaving two short leather loops hanging by the side of the camera. This means it would also be easy to mount a wrist strap to either side if I want to. here are a couple of further shots to show what I mean.

So if you are looking for something a bit different, with a practical purpose, and want to add to the retro feel of the OMD, I recommend one of these. You can find them on ebay and they are not prohibitively expensive either. Some are in better condition than others but they've stood the test of time and will last for years to come. Personally I think they look pretty cool on this camera.

Fantastic!
However, the metal parts could scratch the camera? Or not?
In any case, old 70s-80s cameras tend to get "brassed" around the edges anyway...

I doubt it, the leather loops keep the metal clips away from the camera body, they're just about the right length to do this.

True, I don't mind a little wear and tear but I'm confident the design will avoid this. I searched high and low for a camera strap like this, that could be easily unclipped, and co-incidentally the best option I found was this one. The fact that this strap is an old but very well made Olympus design was just the icing on the cake

I'm already at an age that I'm transparent to the opposite sex, I could stick a neon sign on my head and they wouldn't notice, ah well, it was good while it lasted

That's nice and everything, but sometimes you don't want to advertise "Camera Here" in huge bold letters.
For me its the Think Tank or Domke gripper type straps.

Ah. I have fond memories of those Tony. Mine didn't say Olympus (or any other brand for that matter) but everything else rings strong bells. Very nice touch to complete the retro appearance, which, as we know, is already good enough to fool all but the real cognoscenti.

Cheers Anders, it says amateur or tourist, some may be surprised how far that can get you, as opposed to "this guy is serious" or "he knows what he's doing". I'm thinking of getting a sombrero to top it off

hi Tony
I have some similar slings that must be 30 yrs old now, and I use them all the time. Word of caution about those dog clips though, theyre prone to unlatching themselves. A better design clip is the long spring clip type that wont unintentionally come undone

My thoughts exactly. The less "pro" I can look the better. I remember some people saying that they preferred the black version of the E-M5 because it looked more "pro". For me that was just one more incentive to get the silver.

Either way, I am planning in the GH-3 and think I will go with a Black Rapid strap, they look easy to take off too.

I just switched to the Black Rapid Cargo sling strap. It is perfect for micro 4/3rds.

For me, there's no need to go to eBay to find '70s vintage camera straps. I bought mine...in the '70s.
