If the G1X cannot out resolve and perform better than the RX100 at High ISO's Canon better get out of the business, the sensor size difference is HUGE...lol...heck it's even larger than m43 sensors!!!, but at times it does seem only marginally better?

Says one thing...Sony is getting their sensors down pat...

Mr Ichiro Kitao, I support the call to upgrade the FZ50.
I will not only buy one but two no questions asked...

It might seem only "marginally" better to you. That is precisely what we are discussing. To me, the difference is way beyond marginal.

And the term "at times" covers a mass of question-begging.

In the end, it comes down to which camera gets me the best pictures. And, apart from the shutter lag affecting fast-moving scenes, that's the G1 X. The RX100 is the best street photography camera I have though. Much better than the Micro Four-Thirds.

Not to rehash all of these old, tired discussions again but....

There are differences between large sensors and small sensors other than strictly technological. That is to say, the high ISO noise response of the G1 X is inarguably better (how important that is remains subjective), but large sensors have different artistic uses. And the G1 X optics are also superior despite, once again, being a matter of how much that is worth to each individual.

The RX100 is a good camera. The G1 X is a good camera. My old 10D was a good camera. A 65MP medium format back on a nice body is likely a good camera. The purpose of the camera and the preferences of the photographer will determine the significance of every major or minor difference. For me, Sony menus are enough to keep me away from anything but the most mind blowing advance in camera technology were they to ever reach that point. The RX100 to me is more of a shot at the middle ground than the Nikon 1, and neither one reach the balance I personally required. For that matter, the G1 X won't do everything I want, but that's exactly why demanding and particular people like myself own more than one camera and more than one lens.

Gary, I know you already know all this.  I'm not directing this comment at you.  Just interjecting into your conversation.

A Belgian company Cmosis, designer of the new Leica FF sensor, has a patent with more oval than rounded microlenses to get more light and as a solution for corner problems.

The sony design with the tiled stacked rgb layers seems like an inverted solution for the same problem.

Sony had already a patent for a stacked rgb layer sensor. They presented it a year ago in documents to their shareholders. In that same document Sony stated that their objectives are:

- 4K HD video

- become the world leader in sensor design
