If I get the Sony a57 today- which is the way I should go?

Headed out to the best buys to check out the a57 in hand...their are several kit options.  Which way should I go if I decide to purchase this very Day?

Its raining and it's a good day for me to head back to best buys.

Their are three available kits

Just a57 with kit 18-55 lens -699.99

A57 with 18-55 and the 75-300 $850.00

A57 with 18-55and the 55-200 at $800.00

Or should I get the a57 base kit for 699.99 and grab up the 35mm-2.8 for additional 200.00

I have a hard hard timno jumping on someone if I like it instead of waiting to order it online.  I get too excited

Thanks all

I've been researching the same question, and based on reviews, no one likes the baee kit lenes very much.  If you look around, you should be able to find it as a single lens kit with the 18-135zoom. that one looks interesting...just maybe add a bright prime or the very popular 16-50 f2.8 dx zoom (people seem to rave over that one but it's as much as the camera!!)

good luck shopping!

I think that I would buy body only then add the excellent Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 and consider the Tamron 70-300mm f4-f5.6 USD, which is also excellent.

Yep, you are correct, looks like Sony don't offer a body-only option for models beneath A65.  In that case, I'd opt for the cheapest kit lens with a view to replacing it at some point in the future.  I'd still get the Tamron 70-300mm USD, since it offers a useful range with high IQ at a far more affordable price than the Sony equivalent.

Don't get the 18-55 / 55-200 and 75-300.

The 16-50/2.8 is indeed a very good lens. Already at F2.8 and 50mm for portraits, it is sharp. Very quiet and fast SSM. Just so much better than the 18-55 kitlens. The Tamron 17-50/2.8 didn't came out that great at F2.8 and the AF is noisier.

I have had the 55-200 for one day and sent it back. Not sharp at 200mm and slow AF.

The 70-300g is a great lens, same quality as the 16-50/2.8. I am not sure the Tamron 70-300 is as good, some say it is and some say it's not.

If you want more reach I can recommend you the Tamron 200-500. I use it for wildife/birds and am really happy. I would prefer this one over the 70-400g just because of the extra reach. The Tamron is lighter also. And AF speed is about the same. I am used to sharp lenses like the Minolta 400/4.5 and the Tamron doesn't disappoint.

I know, these lenses cost a lot, but they are worth the money. If you go with the cheaper ones you will get disappointed at some time, so better do it right the first time.

Body only is $598 on Amazon.

Also available in that configuration from most major camera retailers online. Best Buy may not carry it, but it's out there.

At least take the Sony 18-135mm with your A57. Or maybe check out the Sigma 18-250mm OS HSM, at lenstip.com it came out really good and costs a little more than the 18-135mm.
