Did not quite get the answer over here - a bit noisy and pretty dark with 30 % too little light to see the writing on the wall - was the answer something about waiting for the a42?

Dennis, this is tough question.

Probably Sony Alpha Shooter could answer best way!

Person is taking photos, not camera. When photograph is bad, it's because photographer doesn't know how to choose settings optimal to "own preferences". Then blames camera for bad IQ.
This is same as blaming car about arriving to wrong destination.

What is the meaning of life (to a Sony Alpha photographer)?

Jokes aside, this is most challenging question to every "thinking person" . Thanks God  we find different answers to it through entire life and and do answer this under different angle...

To me, as a Sony Alpha A850 photographer, answer is in constant "a search of meaning", Alpha 850 camera helps to document, discover or show what I find on a way.

I found the secret to life a long time ago.... and that is:

" To be Happy "

This can easily be applied to Photography... as far as Alphas go.. Im very happy with the direction they have taken...IM happy with my Photography in general...

Getting there may be a challenge but when you get there... everything else is less important.

Well said, Bill.

As it seems only I can control where the "Answer" goes. I will keep it on the reply with the most votes.

And the ultimate question is of course "what is 6 times 9".

The question that is never asked, is "In what number base does 6 times 9 equal 42?"

The answer to the question that is never to be asked, is 13.

Now you are in the know about the answer and the question to the universe, and to the answer and question that is never to be asked.

In the words of H W Longfellow this is what I try to abide by (as a Alpha Photog or otherwise).

"Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
    And, departing, leave behind us
        Footprints on the sands of time ;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
        Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
    A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
        Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
        With a heart for any fate ;
    Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait. "

So far I have only managed this :-).

To Add to my answer, let me add this.... although Ive said this many many times here on this forum That is :

Why do people always focus on what is wrong with their life... what is wrong with their job,.... what is wrong with their marriage... and specifically what is wrong with their camera.... and their photography.. what is Wrong with Sony etc...

Instead of looking at all that is right with their life.... their job.... their marriage.... their camera.. and Sony...

Knowing that nothing can be perfect, waking up every morning is much better than the alternative.... having a job, in the face of no job at all, Having a good marriage ( I should know .. Ive been married 45 years to the same loving woman.. are things perfect? hell no... Are we happy... yes we are.. )Its all in your perception of life.

Ive always been thrilled with the cameras I use, and then when I want a newer one, I look at the older one with fond memories of the thousands of memories it has captured.. I never look at a new camera as an escape from a poor performer in the previous camera.. I look at a new camera to be a little more fun... a little better than the older one.. IN the face of having No Sony and No A mount, I am thrilled at the direction Sony has taken with photography... if you look hard enough you can find fault with anything..  For many here on this forum...if they didn't have something to bitch about , they would not know how to post.... I can not imaging these people being happy about anything...

Recently, I have been asking myself if there is a life after Alpha - and even asking the question suggests that there is.  Next question is: Nikon?

Bill, I liked your first installment but not so sure about the second.

When a camera has a glaring problem that can be fixed and the company isn't doing anything about it someone needs to say something and I'm happy to do it. God bless Sony.

There is nothing wrong with a discussion on short comings... IM all for that... IM not one to bury my head in the sand if there is an issue... what I was saying is that if you are not " Happy" with Sony's Flash systems, then  go to Metz,, Don't trash the camera..... So many people say that Sony went to EVF and that is a deal breaker... People who don't even own the camera, wont give it a chance, and are ready to bitch without seeing if it can be better...

Ill use myself as an example...Ive shot OVF and Range finders for 50 years.... I always used these for focus and for composition. When I bought the A77, it didn't take me 30 minutes to see the advantages...this is after 50 years of being very comfortable with OVF. The advantages of an EVF far outweigh any negatives... At Least that is how I see it through my eyes, and after all, while I would like to see everyone Happy... IM really just concerned about " Me " being happy"  And I'm a Happy guy

BTW, I bought the A77 specifically because of the 12 FPS. The OLED was just added gravy. Now that I have the A77 in my hands...I bought it for the 12 FPS but received a dozen extra goodies that I didn't expect. Its the absolute best camera Ive ever owned.

All these things are true, but perhaps to some it is:

ISO x0000 and no noise

where x = 42, of course.
