Pentax Canada Warranty
Oct 4, 2012

I've been looking at the Pentax Canada warranty and I've noticed this little quip,

No warranty shall cover any of the following conditions:

  • A PENTAX product no longer within its applicable warranty period.
  • Impact damage
  • Water/moisture damage
  • Foreign substance damage
  • Sand damage
  • Battery leakage
  • Misuse or abuse
  • Operation contrary to instructions provided in the instruction manual
  • Modifications or servicing provided by anyone other than a PENTAX authorized repair centre
Would this cover the SDM weather sealed lenses? Given the fact that it says "Water/Moisture Damage" and "Sand Damage" .... just curious if this circumvents the apparent weather sealing claims that Pentax has made on their DA* lenses and camera bodies.
Regards and many thanks,Tom

Hi Tom:

While Pentax makes many claims about weathersealing I doubt if they would cover it under warranty; they never said you can drop a K5 in water.

I am not aware of any camera manufacturer, anywhere in the world, that will guarantee against water damage, even for "Water Proof to 30ft" cameras.  That's because there is no way one can prove a camera wasn't put in conditions that exceeded the specification.
