E-M5 might be out of my budget, but a refurb one might not. When do you think they will start having some at Cameta

If you're in the US, watch Craig's List. I just bought an E-M5 with a 12-50 with UV filter and an lcd screen protector for $1,000. That's basically the cost of the camera.

It was owned by a Canon 5D owner who wanted something smaller, but thought the E-M5 was a little too small. He loved the build, lens quality (yes...we're talking about the 12-50) and the colors. He wants the E-x with the E-M5 guts. Never heard someone talk about downsizing to an E-x, but there you go.

The other place you might look is the Olympus site. They will charge tax on the purchase, though.

keh.com currently has a used "like new" body only available for $919. Not a great deal, but might be a place to watch for used EM-5's.

An E-M5 with the HLD-6 landscape grip is about the size of a 420/620. The guy I bought this camera from had a lot of options, ranging from the very nice Gariz leather accessories through the Olympus, John Milich, RRS, and probably some more. From a size standpoint, the E-M5 is extraordinarily customizable.

But he was telling me he wanted to sell a camera that was less than two months old with about 500 clicks on the shutter...that he paid $1400 for...to me for $1000.

Who am I to tell him he had options?

LOL, I think you just beat me to it. Phoenix right? I was $200 short and by the time I got the money it was gone!

Guilty as charged....

Since the closest E-M5 to Phoenix is at Samy's in Pasadena, California...I had to do something.

Can't believe that in the 5th largest city in the nation, no one seriously sells Olympus. BTW...the Ritz Camera on Highland/20th Street has about a week or so left before it closes. There's still some stuff there, depending on what you're looking for.....

Especially given that this isn't a poor city either!

I have a friend down in Tempe who let me come try out his E-M5 in exchange for sampling my Pany 100-300. I know I like it. $1000 was a great price.

I'm still not sure whether to get the E-M5 or just get an E-PM2 (I already have the VF2) and then get a 9-18 with the difference!

You have a tougher decision than I did..
In reply to Kevdog, Sep 27, 2012

my "newest" camera was an E330 and I just couldn't connect with the Pens. I played with an E-M5 in Minneapolis, while we were on vacation, and even without any auxiliary grips, it felt very useable. I have fairly small hands, so that helped.

Somewhere down the line, I'll buy either the Pany 100-300 or the Oly 75-300. You're definitely ahead of me on that score.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Foto Forum will pick up Oly. I can't imaging Tempe Camera doing that, and the new PhotoMart in Scottsdale (founded by the staff from the old PhotoMark) still isn't capitalized sufficiently for any camera line. Nice store though, if you haven't been in there.

Good luck!
