x100 after 3 months, my thoughts..
Sep 19, 2012

So I bought the black limited edition x100 and i'm pretty happy with it. I was a micro four thirds guy, and sold a bunch of it to afford the x100. Here are some thoughts and then some pics

Coming from m43, waking up from sleep and powering on takes a second or two, even with a sandisk extreme 95mb/s. That has caused me to miss a few shots.

I shoot with the ovf 90% of the time, and thought the focus square is bigger than can be on the evf, I barely miss focus.

I don't know if the limited edition is different from the silver version, but my exposure comp has not been moved accidentally, maybe its stiffer.

Dust has crept into the optical viewfinder and just beneath the front lens element. Not to concerned at this moment, but will bring it to fuji near the end of my warranty.

The lack of auto-iso on/off for a configurable button is most annoying to me. Especially as I use the ef-20 a lot and would love an easy way to deactivate auto-iso.

Although it might seem i'm complaining but overall I love the camera. Leaf shutter, built in ND, external controls and amazing image quality are all things I love about the camera.

Was going to shoot with it until the 23mm/f1,4 xf lens came out, but seeing how big that lens looks as a prototype, I can see my self having the x100 for a very long time

That sums up my experience as well, although I did have ec dial slippage. My thumbs up copy also surrounds the ec dial to prevent that. I think my biggest gripe is the wake and startup times at this point. And I still wish for a 50mm adapter. I have the 28 and it's great...

Nice shots, btw.

Really lovely pics - especially those of the dock on the lake. Did you shoot those as B/W in camera, or process them in camera from RAW?...they have such a touching nostalgic feeling.
Thanks,
Angus

Superb series!!! Yeah, the "wake up" time is slow...I have the silver one and no problem with exp comp dial. IQ is great and it loves higher ISO's

I used silver efex pro 2 for all the black and white images which were processed from RAW. I used the 15 day free trial and I might have to buy it outright cause i love the images you can get from it.

Great shots indeed, especially the ones in B&W. Thanks for sharing.

I am DSLR user and bought the Fuji X100 two weeks ago and absolutely love it - small, light and excellent OOC jpg images. If it had the facility to dial the ISO as well then it would have been a priceless camera, just don't like going in to the menu due to the risk of losing shots sometimes.

Love its low-light capabilities.

Ditto for me. I sold most of m4/3 to get the X100 last November. The rest is going now (GH1 just sold and a GF1 to go). I really don't miss much about m4/3. I prefer the bigger sensor. Although, I do love my X10 and the XS1 is really growing on me, despite a sensor smaller than m4/3 too.

lovely work. Yes the B&W white are special. Im not sure if this helps with the auto iso but Im finding it quite helpful to use custom function to dial In various iso's.

Love the shot with the "iPad Lady".

I agree regarding AUTO ISO. I wish Fuji would make a FW that makes the useless RAW button an AUTO-ISO toggle.
