The adapter isn't too expensive if they didn't include it:

Multi-Interface Shoe Adapter ( ADP-MAA ) $25

encrust the logo with Swarovski crystals and make the LCD screen with Sapphire glass.

The deal breaker for me is the retro- ISO hot shoe. Looks so ugly in stainless, they should have made it black anodized steel.

Nothing is perfect and that includes the A99. Overall I am very favorably impressed but here are a couple of disappointments (all from DPR preview):

  • No AS mode (i.e. Auto-ISO in manual)

  • No GPS

  • Relatively small buffer (as with A77)

  • FPS could be higher for sports/wildlife

  • No built-in flash

  • Price a bit higher than I think it should be to make a dent in the competition

However my overall impression of the A99 is quite positive. I look forward to the full reviews.

It has GPS... did you miss the BIG GIANT "GPS" logo on the side of the camera?

There are TWO models. One with GPS and one without. In the USA only the model with GPS will be available.

I'm sure there will be other places GPS will be available. The a77V (V is for GPS) was available most everywhere.

But there are countries like China that ban GPS devices and certainly cannot be sold there.

On paper, looks like a great camera, I would bet in usage too. Kudos to Sony for continuing to pust the envelope.

This is another amateurish camera from Sony (when will they ever learn from all the experts on this forum how to make a decent camera?) - they did not even try - the ONLY thing that is HOT with this camera is the SHOE!

It's a nit-pick, I know. I'll say "For $2800 they could throw in a $25 adaptor!" They'll say "if you can afford a $2800 camera why are you whining about $25?"

Need to read up more on the limitations of the AF ranging...is that function on only some lenses, not all??? If so, not as compelling as a new feature.

I still hope they found a neato keano chili-beano way to use the dual PDAF to assist lens calibration settings.

Clarified for myself....adaptor is indeed included.

Re: the AF Ranging, the Sony 'features' page does NOT have any footnote on the description of the AF range feature (showing lens limitations). It only has that footnote on the new AF-D tracking mode. Which is fine by me - indicates that the AF Range limiting should work on my Sigma 150-500mm....woot!!
