Does bracket shooting work on the DP2M?

I use exposure bracketing quite a bit on my DP1 and I am curious as to whether the write times allow it to function quickly on the DP2M?

Does bracket shooting work on the DP2M?

It actually works much better on the DP2M, because the buffer has been increased to hold 7 shots (even RAW & JPeg at highest settings), and you can shoot the second set of bracketed shots a second or so after the first one - something you could not do with the old DP1 / DP2.

If you have to change settings in between - which you can do more or less imediately, you will anyway need a couple of seconds or so to change the settings before shooting again, which in practical terms translates to: write times are of no concern anymore.

Frankly: I don't understand why people still complain about the write times. The only explanation I have is that they don't fully understand the operations of the DP2 Merrill (that includes Steve Huff - though I think his review otherwiise is good and fair (apart from some technical / historical details)).

I cannot see that would be a problem. Thus far I can shoot continuously without waiting for the DP2 M to finish writing.

Write times do not affect shooting

Yes, while writing at any time you can adjust settings or take more photos (until the buffer is full).

But here's the best part about bracketing on the DP-2M - you can alter the QS menu to have different settings in it than the default, one of which is bracketing values! So to enable bracketing and set the amount, you just press QS, move to the side with the bracketing setting, and spin the wheel to select a bracketing amount.

Note that the SD-1 allows up to five shots in a bracketed image, but the DP-2M seems to only do three (one on either side of the current exposure). You can control the order.

Thanks Kendall, that is a good feature. Boy I just wish they could create some primes for the SD1 that are like the DP1 and DP2 plus 90 mm, that would be great!

Yes it works well, the bracketed shots are taken fairly
quickly in succession. It also works correctly for long-
time exposures (which did not correctly work in the
old DP series) as I already mentioned in another thread:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1027&message=42207058

Note that for bracketed long-time exposures the DP2M
first takes all the exposures, and then takes all the dark-
frames to eliminate noise. With this order the time between
the bracketed exposures is minimised. Good implementation
on the part of Sigma.

Greetings,
Robert

Very good to hear. The DP2M becomes more and more tempting.
