Bracket-Pro sounds interesting. Hope it allows 5+ exposures and saving in RAW (this is of course assuming Bracket pro is something to do with exposure bracketing...)

+1 Count me in for "Bracket Pro".
At least now I know the reason why bracketing has been limited to +- 2/3EV.

Only 3 lenses are supported for the new af system?

24mm Zeiss f/1.8, 18-55 and 55-210... Why?

I hope my tamron 18-200 and the sigma eMount are included in the future firmware updates for fast autofocus support. Would be dissapointed if its only the sony lenses. Would discourage other manufacturers to produce eMount lenses if support for them will only be 50%.

re: on-sensor PDAF - good news with a grain...
In reply to Catalin Stavaru, Aug 29, 2012

...of doubt, first we can read:

"The intuitive new “Fast Hybrid AF” autofocus technology utilizes 99 phase-detection AF points arrayed on the image sensor to detect a subject’s distance and quickly lock focus on it, and then utilizes contrast-detection AF to confirm extremely fine, precise details. In Speed Priority Continuous shooting mode, the camera will switch automatically to phase detection tracking AF and can track fast-moving action accurately in each frame up to 10 frames per second"

but then, Carl Garrard mixes some self-contradiction into a
single sentence:

"The autofocus is excellent (I was told the production version may be even faster), and near bridges the speed gap of DSLR territory ".

so... is it "excellent", or only "near bridges"?? At times like this one
wishes for lots less parable, but much more accuracy !!

Hopefully the dpreview preview from later today will tell us more about the autofocus speed.

perhaps :), right now it is already obvious that Eos-M's PDAF has been
left in a dust; and my question is whether 5R's will outdo Nikon's N1
10 fps but with about only first frame in each tracking series in a truly
critical focus?

More lenses will be supported when Sony send out an update. However, this really looks sloppy for Sony to be in such a hurry that they can't even support all of their own lenses when releasing an update to a line of cameras already established. This camera should support all of the lenses before they start selling it.

sounds like the apps are more PP than feature modification, which is what I expected. I suspect it will still fall to the modding community to make changes to the core functionality of the camera.

They removed the page, as they jumped a bit early: the live coverage for press starts about 40 minutes from now.

Well that explains why I couldn't find the 5R on the Sony website then.

I won't be buying this camera, but I suspect the 6 won't be too different in most regards.

This will sell a lot of cameras and is a big selling point. Traditionalists may not like it, but it is not for them anyway.

My problem with apps in camera is this: If they are primarily PP, I don't see much point, as we already have a wealth of PP apps on our smartphones. I doubt we will get anything to match the power and simplicity of best-of-breed apps like Snapseed. If the apps do add features, it incentivises Sony to leave out features and charge for them later.

I'm no techie, but I'm getting the impression that the "apps" will be proprietary and provided by Sony only. Not open to third party developers. Am I reading this wrong?
