Leica EVF-2 and Olympus VF-2: Are they identical?
Aug 28, 2012

OK I can see that the chassis is shaped a little different and the scribble out front betrays different branding, but my question is whether the internals are the same?

Primarily I am keen to know which way Epson has compromised. Noting the VF-2 came first, it was designed and manufactured with the 4:3 image aspect ratio in mind. Meanwhile the Leica format is 3:2. So does the EVF-2 possess the same screen with some of the top or bottom display disabled, or the VF-2 always had excess pixels each side. Or does the newer EVF-2 have a new - 3:2 aspect - screen inside?

Keen to know as my order arrived today and I have the EVF in the mix. Be more than happy to opt for the VF-2 instead, as this would 'free up' funds to buy a CV OVF as well. But I'll only dump the Leica offering if they are the same....

TIA

I looked through both of them at the store, and they looked to be identical. I bought the Olympus.

I believe the Panasonic GX1 finder does not fit either the Leica X2 or any of the PENs. Thought both the EVF-2 and VF-2 are made by Epson....if not they are certainly sourcing the base plate moulding from the same place?

The Panasonic EVF in their G1/G1H, etc models is a different technology.
The optional one for the GF1, et al, is also a lower rez, different technology.

Olympus was the first company to use this technology and it is super.

Olympus VF-2 and Leica EVF-2 are both essentially the same, and both made by Epson AFAIK...
