>>>Saturday B&W Thread - 8/18/2012>>>
Aug 18, 2012

Hello Everyone -

Post a maximum of two images (post them in a single post, not split over two posts). It can be any camera, you can say what it is if you like. You can also say whether it was an in camera B&W and the mode or what PP software you use if you like.

Reply to this first post and change your subject line to reflect your subject. Please switch to "threaded view" instead of "flat view". I try and respond to all posts, but if your post is not threaded properly I may miss it.

You may include the colour originals if you like for comparison, this doesn't count toward your two weekly submissions.
It would be nice to hear why you chose B&W instead of colour.

Please be nice and comment on any photos you like. If possible, let's leave a full day for posting of the images and then we can follow up with comments. This should allow more people an opportunity to post an image.

Thanks in advance to all who participate and for making this something to look forward to each week.

After 100 years (engine was build in 1913s) of "hard labor" this narrow gauge steam locomotive has reached the end of the line .. Today expounded at Ljubljana Rail Road Museum.

Re-posting from the last year when the image wasn't accepted too well, LOL .. second run today, hope I've improved (some) in this time ..

Best regards from the Sunny side..

Milla with a Stick, Looking at the Moon
In reply to snap, Aug 18, 2012

This image is taken with FZ150 at 1600 ISO, and it's a stack of 9 RAW images, using the exposure bracketing feature 3 times in a row. So it's actually also an HDR image. There are details even in the moon and the street lights.

I did this as a challenge to solve the issues of night time photography with the FZ150 in another post. We ended up with a very nice result, technicall speaking. I never thought of the image as having an artistic quality, but I did some more PP with it, made it BW, and I think its getting close to something I really like. Maybe I should crop it a bit, but I can't agree with my self. I don't like to remove information from a photograph.

Comments are very welcome indeed!

That is lovely Bruno!! I love old trains. I didn't see it the last time, but I can't imagine why it wasn't well accepted.

Galloping
In reply to snap, Aug 19, 2012

I took this photo in 2004 with my first DSLR, the Canon D60 (6MP CMOS sensor) and Canon 75-300mm lens. The original was in colour but I converted to grayscale in Photoshop CS2 as I think it makes for a more dramatic shot.
