Most satisfying Canon SX40 Photo

Hi,

I have been reading the threads discussing the Canon SX40 with interest. I am very happy with mine. Here is a challenge for those who have been using this great camera, post your most satisfying shot. I know that the big dollar, big lens Canons can probably do better, but I would venture to say, "Not Much Better."

Here is your chance to show what you can do with your SX 40.

Thanks,

Tony

My photos are simplistic but I love the colours.

Re: You are likely to get a lot of birds.... here are a couple.

Ok.. here are some samples of SX40 birds in the wild.. I typically shoot at -1/3EV sometime more as the camera does like to clip highlights. I like to use the multiple exposure mode to shoot a bunch of pictures and then sort out the keepers later. I use the viewfinder almost exclusively for birds with the small center focus point. The camera does a pretty good job even at 1.5X digital zoom if needed. I do post processing in Lightroom mostly for cropping, contrast and a little sharpening. I envy the guys with the big glass, but I really can't justify the cost for the number of hours I get out to do this stuff. I have a bunch more samples in the Smugmug "Nature" folder if you are interested. Link below. Best regards.

Osprey profile... He did not seem to respond to "Smile" or "Watch the Birdie". I have this one printed 11X14 and it looks very good.

He was more interested in a fresh seafood lunch

Male and Female Pintail Ducks..

Little Green Heron...

Not a whole lot yet but....

Just picked mine up a couple weeks ago so not a huge amount of shooting outside some family fun time shots from a short vacation last week. However, I do enjoy the camera and it's abilities. IQ is good. Close but not exceeding my SLR in terms of quality but certainly holds its own within the first 500mm or so. They take edits and PP'ing well for a a non DSLR too.

Here are a couple taken from the camera and really only just cropped/watermarked.

Here's longer reach shot. Great clarity on it for sure.

Re: Most satisfying Canon SX40 Photo

Nice shots, really - but: sorry, Mate.
They can do much better even with the small lenses.

The main reasons for sying this are the blown highlights and the loss of detail in your sunset and nightshot. The Lories do almost look too good to be real. Somehow oversaturated and over sharpened.

Canon FF even with the 24-105 kitlens would look much better and more real.

Anyway - most important is that you are satisfyed with your results and the fact that you can spend thousands of dollars to have a good time and be sure to always carry a great camera - whereever aou go.

Cheers,
Tom

I too use the =1/3 to -2/3 EV. These kind of photos are what makes the SX 40 fun to have. Tony

Thanks. That's my son Nicholas with his camera. I used to work for Panny so I have several 5-10mp P&S Cams and we let them use them. Both had one every day we were on vacation. Gives us all a good view of how they see the world
