P510 - panoramas
Jul 29, 2012

People have been talking about the Panorama mode so thought I would test it out.

I tried the Easy Panorama 180 degree. You must be careful to expose for the brighter area, as shown. The first is left to right. The second right to left - which does not expose correctly and overexposes as it encounters the sunlit area.

The 3rd is my preferred way to do panoramas - just snap and stitch
The original is 40MP. This has been reduced to 20MP being DPR's limit.

HDR or D-Lighting may have been a good idea to use here.

edit: the photos cant do the view justice.

My thoughts exactly, more or less. My cellphone's panoramic setting works well and is easy to use, but the results are poor, both landscape and portrait orientation. There are a few free programs that will do a decent stitch job.

One thing I thought that would be useful would be to post one or two original segments to give perspective on the finished(?) panorama.

I would love to see what this camera can do with cityscapes in panorama mode. I love doing panoramic shots of stadiums, and would love to see what can be done with such large amounts of detail.

Hi Conrad

I agree. I look forward to taking a closer cityscape.

Here is a more distant one in the mean time.

Very nicely done overall MarioV. Nice to view and just the right size for an easy quick view especially when I am on a 10.5 in HP tiny laptop on WiFi in Lake Tahoe or Reno. Really a nice job. I am very glad you are enjoying your Nikon so much, too.

Sun was getting low. Leave the shadows ?

And the upload limits are not working properly. I had to reduce the size considerably.

Which is the best Panoramic Stiching Software ?

In Sweep Panorama Mode does the camera lock the exposure from the first frame or does it changes the exposure as the camera is sweeped from left to right or vice versa........
Why is there an exposure error in "In camera Panoramas".
