By no coincidence all of the worst mass murders in US history have been non-gun.

Worst School Massacre in US history: Bath, Michigan School Massacre. 1927. Murder accomplished with explosives. 44 victims (equal to the Columbine and Virginia Tech massacres combined).

Worst Domestic Terrorist Attack in US History: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing. 4/19/95. Murder accomplished with a rental truck full of fertilizer based explosives. 168 dead (including many children in an onsite day care).

Worst Foreign based Terrorist Attack in US History: September 11, 2001 attacks on NYC, PA, Pentagon. Murder accomplished with box cutters and commerical airliners. 3,000 people dead.

well I guess that you could look at it that way, or you could realize that people planning a mass murder are going to do it even if they dont have a gun.

This nut case in Colorado put a great deal of time and planning into his attack on the theater - I think it is very likely that if he didnt have access to guns he most likely would have found another weapon to get the job done and if the weapon he chose was explosives the results could have been much worse

the majority of terrorist attacks in recent times, most of which involve car bombs (London), attaché bombs on trains (Madrid), the Sarin gas attack in Tokyo, etc. (and in fact almost all modern terrorist attacks are done without guns)

If you follow the link in my OP you will see that non-gun mass murders are not just limited to the United States.

If a lunatic wants to kill a lot of people they don't need guns to do it.

Our society produces a lot of lunatics, and if they didn't have access to guns, they could simply buy garden fertilizer, and kill as many people as they want to. Did people demand that garden fertilizer be banned after Oklahoma City? How about banning everything that can remotely be considered dangerous?

WTF - I'll go along with a ban on "dying." who let that happen anyway?

No, but having access to automatic weapons does make it THAT MUCH easier.

Plus of course...we should always keep all 'explosive' materials under strict security conditions too.

GUNS assist in mass killings - there's absolutely no point in saying they don't.

It's SO MUCH easier to walk into a cinema and shoot 70 with a rirearm....than it is to rig the place up properly with explosives....or to obtain grenades, etc to do the SAME job.

It's a far simpler process just to use a gun...especially for the younger type offender (say a teenage school kid)....who wouldn't be able to get access to potentially explosive materials, etc.

Did you know that this kid Holmes rigged his apartment to take out the entire complex of buildings? The only reason he didn't use a bomb, was that he wanted to kill people up front and personal (admitedly just guessing here). Probably set up his bomb just for kicks.

Look, if someone is THIS crazy, spends four months planning this event, what makes you think he needs a gun?

Since 1948, approx 51,000 people have died in the Arab-Israeli conflict...and that includes all the wars, soldiers, civillians, etc.

In just TWO years, Americans kill more of their own folks....than have died in almost 65 years in Palestine.
