It depends on your priorities. Small cameras are necessarily ... small. Many people find a bigger camera to be uncomfortable to carry.

Which looks more comfortable to:

  • to carry around on a two week vacation...with multiple lenses?

  • stuff into a jacket pocket?

  • take to a night club or to a party?

Equal.

  • stuff into a jacket pocket?

Neither.

  • take to a night club or to a party?

The top one.

my hand cramps up if i hold a canon rebel for more than fifteen minutes because the grip is too skinny and not deep enough for my hands.

yet i can hold a leica m or konica hexar rf and other rangefinder cameras seemingly forever without an accessory grip.

so i'm going to give the eos m the benefit of the doubt.

I agree - too small. My 5D is much better.

Not me - they're even worse.

i can toss a EOS-M into my briefcase while travelling .. without having to worry about carrying a gear case.

hard to do that with a dslr solution

They both suck compared to EOS-1D X.

Rebel looks much, much better here than EOS M. But both are in bit of a "no mans land", as with all smaller DSLR and all mirrorless - too small to handle well and have good controls, too large to be carried in a pocket.

Still, I'd like to eventually replace my P&S with a larger sensor mirrorless, I just can't get over the size difference (my P&S is very small) and the bloated price. Why are these things costing more than the cheapest Rebel?

Agreed, but one is worse.

Depends what you are using it for, I don't think that is necessarily a fair comparison.

And you should add the (DSLR) lens converter to the Canon, so you could compare apples with apples. I think that the Pentax definitely wins.

In a real party with dancing, bumping, and drinking...the Rebel...you can grip it in one hand and actually be able to focus on something on the dark. The bottom one you'll get it bumped out of your hands while you wait for it to hunt in the dark as you hold it at arms length.

The lighter one for me.

Don't get me wrong I shoot 7D with grip and usually with 17-55, 85L or 70-200 2.8IS attached. I do that for functionality reasons not because I like holding a big brick everywhere to take pictures.

That's just crazy. Would you hold a S100 like that? I think not.

No one would hold it like that.
