M43 Onion DPR "Why I Chose the Lego Camera over the EM5"

It seems like on every DPR forum there are posts about why some chose camera A over Camera B. D800 over 5D3. 5D3 over D800. NEX7 over OMD over X100. Today I'd like the share why I chose the Lego Camera over the EM5.

First it is made out of a very strong composite material. Very nice! Very kid proof.

It comes with internal memory -- no need to buy an SD card.

I'm a prime shooter so I am totally fine with the fixed lens.

It comes with a built in flash, unlike the fiddly clippy thingy on the EM5.

I don't need to buy and expensive tripod. All I need to do is borrow an appropriate set of blocks from my son and build a lightweight, composite tripod/monopod to my desired height.

The buttons are bigger and arranged simply.

If I want to decorate my camera with Frodo or Yoda or Harry Potter figures, I CAN! Just snap them on and you're good to go. Cannot do that with the accessory port.

I'm sick and tired of silver lenses and bodies from Oly. Why not bright colors in a fun pattern?

Lastly, Chase Jarvis uses one...

Rome - part 1
In reply to SLOtographer, Jun 30, 2012

I spent three days in Rome last month. During those few days I shot more than 1,300 pictures. Not surprisingly it took several weeks to process them. I like to share 'some' of them here with you. I'll post them here in three seperate messages.

I like the first picture a lot. It's got humor and made me smile.

I know, I know... you don't like HDR.

I do like HDR and as you may remenber I posted a number of (pseudo) HDR pictures here last year. I like the rainbow picture, but would have appreciated your picture more if the HDR effect had been more restrained. But that's just a matter of personal taste.

I like your version of HDR! Nice work this week. The first is great! Way to see the image in the scene, which would be so easy to miss if you're just walking along. The HDR effect adds a nice dimension to the natural scene -- a bit dark in a good way. It lets me ponder what could be going on there.

LOL! Like the b&w treatment and the headstock that breaks up the horizontal lines on the left.

Drove through Austin on the way to San Antonio. (Another work trip...) Stopped by to walk, eat, and drink for a while before moving on. Didn't see Kirk.

The first is very powerful. I sometimes feel a bit guilty taking such pictures but that certainly works.
The Pantheon is one is my absolute favourite buildings.

More from Legacy Lenses (and a survey)
In reply to SLOtographer, Jun 30, 2012

The first three were taken with the Yashica 135mm f2.8, the fourth with the Nikon 55mm f3.5 macro, and the last was with a non legacy lens; the 12mm.

The two daylilies were both taken at the same time, with different apertures. I do not remember what they were, (I think the first was f4 and the second was f8, but it might have been f11) The f8 one, of course, has more DOF and as a result the entire flower is in focus. The f4 one has the front half of the flower in focus and just the rear petals out of focus.

Which do you prefer? I am curious. I do have a preference for one over the other, but I want to see what other people think.
