Re: Gore Range wildflowers
In reply to dzba, Jun 15, 2012

My earlier post was with the Gore Range in the background. Hard for me to name all in this photo. After returning from this trip I went out and got a wildflower id book. Some of the ones in this photo are: bistort (white colored about the size of a cherry), Bracted Lousewort (yellow spikes), lupine (purple colored spikes), sneezeweed (yellow with gold colored center), two types of Indian paintbrush (hot pink or rosey, and red), Elephant head Lousewort (violet colored spikes) a type of arnica (yellow that have a circular shape flower, unlike the sneezeweed that have only partial petals),and a type of astor (purple with a golden eye in center). Probably more in there that I overlooked. I took this last summer when conditions were a snowpack from winter that was a 40 record. This year our state in most mountain areas has a major lack of snowpack, setting a 40 year record for least amount of snowpack. Unless we get a bunch of rain, this year's wildflower crop will be very thin. Thanks for looking, and please post some to add, Mike

Blue Bonnets in Glacier NP
In reply to dzba, Jun 15, 2012

Good idea for a thread! I wish wild flower season wasn't just about ending here in Florida, so we'll have to use some photos from Montana.

I think the blue flowers are blue bonnets, taken with my trusty old ZS3:

My mom calls these paintbrushes - no idea what the scientific name might be. Taken near St. Regis Falls, NY with a FZ150.

Quite similar in many ways to a Honeysuckle - at least as I know it.. but the Honeysuckle that I know does not have leaves that look anything like those shown here.. but then..I don't live in or near to the Alps so I've no idea what THEY have !!!
Incidentally, OP, ... you've spelt it wrongly in the text on the frame !!

Those beauties are spider lilies. I've been trying to buy bulbs so I can grow them, but nobody carries them around here.

Hi Steve,

glad you liked and participated. By the looks of it, the horse appears to also like wildflowers. Quite a variety of flowers in that shot. I'd bet it was an extra treat to see a grizzly, her cub and a meadow with wildflowers all in the same location. Good job of capturing the moment, Mike
