Hi everyone, I'm sure you've noticed by now but we just posted a major update to the D800/E review containing several pages of comparisons and analysis of the D800E against its 'stock' sister the D800. We also added a section on uncompressed video including a sample for download.

Barney, thanks! But why does the Capture One Pro.6 shows too much sharpness compared to the NX2?

Barney, Thankyou very much. Much appreciated.

Btw, you didn't find LCD green cast and left most AF problem on the d800 and d800e that you tested?

You're welcome! And no, nothing out of the ordinary in the cameras we tested.

Is the pricing right? I thought 800e is more bread than the 800.

Good work as usual

Thank you for the update.

I do have a request, if you ever have the opportunity to shoot targets which would allow to evaluate the results all the way to Nyquist that would be great.

It is interesting to see that more and more reviews say that the e Resolution is better but not that much higher once you apply good sharpening to both of them.

Little or output sharpening needed on the e, that's the beauty of it.

Nice detail on the detail you get extra with the d800E,

Thanks for adding, and especially the video 'differences' as well.

Yes. Even snapshots are sharp with no additional sharpening needed most times. I think the point about shooting at f4 and f5.6 is spot on as well. I'm almost always between f3.2 and f8, so it works out great. But I have used my E for macros at f22, and even there it is a treat.

About the AA filter...
In reply to Barney Britton, Jun 12, 2012

Thanks for the update.

Something you might find useful about the AA filter.

This seems like an odd way of doing things; why not just remove the filter altogether?

Because it's glued to the sensor chip package.

One of the two LiNbO3 filters serves as the sensor cover glass, it's not part of the stack. So, the only way to remove it is to make a change on the chip manufacturing line, which means new part numbers, validation, etc. for sensor and circuit board.

Altering the second LiNbO3 filter, the one in the stack, is much easier. You don't have to change as much stuff, stock two kinds of chip, rerun validation, etc.

It's something that Canon started doing in the 5D, and it that type of construction spread across most manufacturers and models. It makes for a thinner stack, one piece (the original, clear sensor cover glass) goes away, and thinner stacks mean less spherical aberration.

Joseph,

What are your thoughts on Nikon's solution to removing the effect of the OLPF on the D800E? Is it equivalent to not having an AA filter or is it just a weaker form of the AA filter on the D800?

Cheers,
