The Sunday BIRD, Volume 7 Issue 52 June 10, 2012
Jun 10, 2012

Good Morning All,

Yes, that’s right. With this issue, the BIRD has completed 7 years and I want to thank all of you who have helped make it a success over these the years.

If you are new, Welcome, the Sunday BIRD is a place for all bird photographers to show their photos, regardless of skill or camera brand. Ask questions or ask for critique and you will probably get several responses; we have many posters who like to help.

Please help the BIRD from becoming a confused mess. Please post your photos first, a maximum of 5 or 6, please. Post again if you need , as replies to this post before you comment on anyone else’s photos . IMPORTANT: please replace the Sunday BIRD title in the Subject window with one that describes your photos or they will be missed .)
After that, make any comments you wish on the photos already posted.

But don’t put your photos inside a reply to another post, because others won’t see them.

Many photographers (especially newer ones) gain from knowing your EXIF data, especially: Camera, lenses, ISO, metering and focusing methods.

Mine follow:

Cheers and Chirps,
Richard Pavek

Some more plovers
In reply to Richard Pavek, Jun 10, 2012

here are a few more plover/dotterel shots taken last month.

The first 2 are of the Hooded Plover. This individual has a mottled hood so I suspect it's an immature bird.

The other shots are of the Double-banded plover, which is very similar to the Mongolian plover I have posted over the past 2 weeks. Only one neck band is displayed in this individual - non breeding plumage

All shots hand held using E-30 + 50-200mm SWD + EC-14. cropped
The low angle shots with me lying prone

Richard, great series. That is one scruffy looking Raven. I'm surprised it can fly with all the missing feathers.

The eagle shots are just great -- I especially like the third one! Nice work -- looks like the D800 is working for you very well. Great job of capturing the action in that first image also.

God Bless,
Greg

These are all very nice. The shot of the 'falling' grosbeak is very unique

Your raven looks like it's been through some bad weather.

The quail are very interesting - nice catch - I always find groud-dwelling birds to be very skittish.

A momma Green-backed Heron, and her brood!
In reply to Richard Pavek, Jun 10, 2012

I hit the mother lode of Green-backed Herons yesterday morning at my favorite local pond. From my count there were 7 juveniles hanging around and the momma, who came and went.

There are many more images in my Pbase gallery at:

What a great subject - just sitting there for you. Quite a young looking bird.
Fearlessness around humans is not usually a good thing for wild raptors.

Nice shots

Is this the most beautiful subject?
In reply to Richard Pavek, Jun 10, 2012

I was driving down a country lane yesterday when my way was blocked by a peahen and a displaying peacock. Parked in the middle of the road, reached across for my E620 and 40-150 next to me and jumped out and took some snaps. This is very unusual for me in that is is out of camera jpg with nothing done to it apart from reduced for posting.
