Just posted my OM-D full review...
Jun 2, 2012

Hi everybody,

I'm mostly on the Leica and Nikon forums, but have been spending ever increasing amounts of time with my PEN system since acquiring the E-PM1 last year.

I just posted my full review of the OM-D - check it out here:

http://blog.mingthein.com/2012/06/02/omd/

Thanks!

Ming

Good review Ming, although I'd not have said the sensor was "reportedly derived from the GX1" since the only duffers reporting that are ... duffers,

and with the right settings we've seen C-AF activity here on the forums. You have to set it up right and use it right, totally unlike DSLR C-AF, check Don Parrot's posts.

I enjoyed your Leica reviews and your camera photographs too. Good job.

Positively the best E-M5 pictures I've seen so far
In reply to berni29, Jun 2, 2012

Notably your Migrant Workers has the look of a true classic.
Other than that, thank you for making thoroughly regret canceling my order, lol.

...at least for me, by sharpening artifacts in your blog presentation. I'm guessing it's due to your technique in scaling down for web.

Thank you for your review... certainly adds to the lust worthiness of this camera

Kind Regards

Thanks for sharing another typically well-written and illustrated review.

Regarding battery life, according to CIPA, the EVF actually shortens battery life compared to the LCD.

Was a bit puzzled about your comment on the advantages of sticking to Olympus lenses with Olympus bodies. Beyond CA correction, is there something that your Panasonic lenses can't do on the E-M5 that they can do Panasonic bodies?

Re: Nice review - If you want to try wireless flash
In reply to Ming Thein, Jun 2, 2012

There are Metz equivalents to the FL-50 that support wireless and people on this forum who could explain any differences in setup (and people on this forum who've used both Olympus wireless flash and its Nikon equivalent). I'll not comment further because my experience only goes as far as playing with an FL-36R with my E-PL1 and E-30 at home (it works, but is it good enough for professional use?).

Edit: I'm sure your photos could sell any camera. Very nicely done.

Thanks for the review. Many things with which I agree. A couple of things where I am not sure you are right.

You say the size of the focus box can't be changed. Of course it can.

You say AF-C is useless. Did you see this thread (and the other ones with a similar content preceding it)?

OM-D and moving subjects
In reply to Ming Thein, Jun 2, 2012

Ming,

Thanks for the informative review. You wrote:

In fact, I don’t think I’d use this camera for moving subjects at all; that’s why I still keep the D700 and battery grip around.

As a happy X-Pro1 owner, I do sometimes wonder about the greener grass of usable AF-C with the OM-D. Regarding AF-C are you comparing the OM-D to other m4/3 cameras?

Thanks,

The only think I recall from reading the article is that he said Oly lenses focus faster than Pany lenses on the OM-5.

Really awesome pictures..
In reply to Ming Thein, Jun 2, 2012

I enjoyed that review a lot. Pictures were absolutely top notch.

Your findings pretty much concur with mine. The OMD is like shooting with a top notch SLR in a tiny body. The shutter sound is sublime.

Like Marla, I really love that Migrant Worker picture. I thought that was my favorite picture from the set.

I do disagree with the way you presented the dynamic range as a negative. 12 stops is pretty awesome even if it isn't as much as the D800. It's certainly as much as you would need in most situations.

Thanks for posting the review.

Darn, I was wanting to see some of your work with it, but it's totally understandable.
