It's definitely not me. I think I'm going to start to spew some equivalence now... Well an M43 moderator is really only an f5.6 Canon 1d/5d forum moderate...

The forums run mostly unmoderated, until someone complains. Sometimes you read a post from one of the DPR contributors, but you don't notice their efforts until you see that a post or thread has disappeared.

i think it also depends on how many times the complaint button gets pressed, so many racist sexist and generally bad comments have been pulled but the users free to carry on regardless

Why should there be one. It is probably the best forum at dpreview, lots of controversial discussions. I can't see anything wrong with it. Thread, for which I don't care, get simply ignored.

From what I see on a daily basis there is NO moderation to speak of, and complaining goes nowhere either. Which is a shame, there are a handful of really noxious bullies here that are having me (and a lot of others I would think) on the verge of losing my (our) nerves. Notably those who systematically highjack threads and continuously harass the same posters. This is becoming unbearable.

I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror... Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies! I remember when I was with Special Forces... seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate some children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there, and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember... I... I... I cried, I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out; I didn't know what I wanted to do! And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it... I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought, my God... the genius of that! The genius! The will to do that! Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we, because they could stand that these were not monsters, these were men... trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love... but they had the strength... the strength... to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men, our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment! Because it's judgment that defeats us.

That's because they do not have identities. Backed by the vast resource of Amazon, DPR has developed the technology to clone limitless supplies of moderators from the DNA in an old toenail clipping of Phil Askey's, found lodged in the carpet under the desk of the Amazon president's gorgeous PA (you wondered why he's not around here so much). They didn't perfect the technique until after they had put out the call for the so-called 'community' moderators, but due to its success they didn't have to take up the offer that flooded in.

It works very well. The Phil A clones (or philanderers as they have become known) don't possess any real intelligence, just enough to detect an equivalence discussion and hit the ban button, but not enough to make any of the present editorial team feel insecure.

The real problem with the replicants is that they have very limited lifetimes. Really, it's more an inconvenience than a problem, it just means occasionally you'll get the 'sorry we're doing some maintenance' screen while they get a few more from out of the fridge.

I follow the DPR posting rules to the letter.

That is no guarantee.

In any case, if you actually read the rules, they are so vaguely defined, I defy anyone to say for certain whether they follow them to the letter or not.
