Strange OM-D problems...
May 27, 2012

Seems to generally work fine, but:

1. a strange problem with the OM-D failing to be recognized by the Viewer Update Camera program. I can easily transfer images, but as soon as I try to get the updater to find the camera, the icon for the camera disappears from the Mac (OS 10.7desktop. More or less the same thing happens with the Windows 7 pro PC. The updater fails to find the camera on either machine.

2. Photos showing up as "tomorrow" instead of a date, but with the correct AM/PM time on the memory card.

Photography is a small voice, at best, but sometimes one photograph, or a group of them, can lure our sense of awareness.

Download the standalone camera updater here :

http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/software/camera/camera.cfm

Be sure that you have the very last version as I remember that ther was a problem with it at the beginning.

When you do the updates be sure to follow their instructions. It can take quite a long time for the Olympus server to answer. Just be patient as the camera display will stay black for a long time just be patient.. It works, at least for Windows PC.

What I mean by "be patient" is that when you are at step 4) of these instructions, the camera will show a totally black display for a long time after what the warning will be displayed only for a very short time before displaying the OK letters indicating that the camera is updated.

Also make a search for Macs, since they had more problems if I remember correctly, but it should be solved by now.

On the files that the Mac or PC "see" on the SD card in the camera. The folder then created (by Viewer or Lightroom) is correctly dated, but the files in it are simply dated with "yesterday" and "today" with the correct AM/PM time of taking.

Re: date-correct on PC
In reply to erichK, May 28, 2012

Correction, the complete date and time are right on the PC, at leat after being downloaded to the Raid array directories and folders I use for originals. But on the mac it is again yesterday for the ones taken the day before yesterday, today for the ones taken yesterday and tomorrow for the ones taken today.

Weird bug! Almost entertaining. Rather reminds me of the sofa stuck halfway up the stairs in Douglas Adams, where they also used a Mac to be assured it had room,
