He's entitled to his opinion. Memorial Day is celebrated ONLY IN THE US.

But there are always lands to be wasted, everywhere.

Doh! I momentarily forgot this is a very international forum. Blame's on me.

Of course he's entitled to his opinion but, as one assumes each flag represents someone who died to give him the freedom to say what he wants, a little more respect might be in order.

And no, I'm not American!

I like the first but you should've put the focus on the front set of flags. As it is, the center line of the flags might be in focus

And Happy Memorial Day to you as well.

It's Boston Common.

British troops camped here in April 1775 and ventured forth on April 19 to Concord and Lexington to sieze supplies and guns from the Massachusetts Militias

The Massachusetts irregulars turned the British troops back, chased them to Charlestown and commenced the siege of Boston.

Boston Common is home to The Central Burying Ground, containing the graves of American and British soldiers killed at Bunker Hill.

It's also houses the James Gould Shaw Memorial, commemorating the 54th Regiment, the first Union Army regiment composed entirely of free black Americans. Most of them were freed slaves. The 54th lost half of its men attacking the Confederate Army's Fort Wagner, but in the end they captured the fort.

Perhaps this will help you understand why we decorate the Commons in this fashion on Memorial Day.

John, very well said.

I'm not American either, but I respect and like our US allies. Australians remember their sacrifice in the Pacific War of WW2, and we have fought together in many conflicts since.

It takes but 5 seconds for someone to find out what is Memorial Day, instead of posting an ill-mannered and offensively stupid and churlish comment.

Why do you see the fact that we want to cover a large piece of or our land with our flag, a waste. The sacrifice that each flag represents is much more precious than any land can be. Seeing all the flags in one place, surely would incline anyone of even the lowest intelligence to realize the significance of the event. If I saw a similar display of your flag, whatever your nation might be, I would think, "this must be something of great importance to the people of the nation". To many in this nation, Memorial Day is a very important day of remembrance, not just for the sacrifices made by Americans, but also the many millions from other nations. Millions from many nations gave there lives so ignorant people like you can have the freedom to make foolish comments like you have. You must be either very young, or very uneducated not to know a display like this has a deep meaning. Or a fool.

Yay for Boston! I'm only 30 minutes outside the city. Maybe I'll make the trip inside this weekend and take some shots with my 5n

Also it seems like we have a handful of NEX users in the Boston area. I think we should get a NEX street photowalk going sometime this summer!

Hi Ed,

I am glad that you like them. I snapped those photos on Saturday morning then left to visit my inlaws in Hartford for the long weekend and did not have time to follow up.

Best,
Tony

Hi Ed,

I left in a hurry to visit my inlaws in Hartford and did not have a chance to follow up. Anyway, were you able to make it to Boston Common park to see the flags?
