Worth having fir video? I already have Tamron 17-50 2.8 but is the current Sony kit lens better for video due to a quiter AF motor?

No, the a57 kit I have seen in the UK is offered with this lens:-

Sony DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM Lens

The 18-55 kit lens is SAM motor. I bought it with A550 (as a kit) few years back and it is not as silent and fast as 16-50 SSM. If you want video then SSM lens is a way to go. With SAM you can still pick up AF motor noise.

Don't know whether it is as loud as your tamron though. Maybe better to sell the Tamron and get the 16-50 SSM f/2.8.

Confirmed - the 18-55 is loud and easily picked up by the microphone when focussing - on playback the focus motor sounds like a cat trying to cough up a fur ball - not good!

Go for a SSM lens-this would not pickup much noise when you're recording video as a SAM lens would.
