600D / T3i Swivel LCD Hood Loupe Solution
May 22, 2012

I was looking for a hood to shade the LCD on my 600D, but couldn't find one that worked well with the swivel LCD. They all require some form of attachment to the LCD body that subsequently prevents the LCD from being closed back in, or don't allow the LCD to swivel at all - which seems pointless.

However, I found it fairly straightforward to buy a Neewer (aka GGS, Perfect) hood with a folding 3x loupe and then add some stick-on Velco strapes to attach it around the LCD.

Works really well, and I love having both a hood and a 3x loupe.

The 3x loupe combined with Magic Lantern Focus Peaking really makes focusing via live view so much easier.

Obviously this would work well with a 60D

I rarely move the LCD on mine. what's the hood shade that you found? I've never seen one.

Yep. I wear glasses and contacts too, and use the loupe with both. It has dioptre adjustment.

The Neewer one I am using is both a Hood and a Loupe. The Loupe flips up if you want to view the LCD without pressing your eye to the Loupe.

There are other shades around but they are fixed in position and either prevent the LCD from being moved at all, or prevent it from being fully closed in the reverse position.

Must say that I am finding that this loupe together with Magic Lantern focus peaking is a killer solution for video.
