a37 clear image zoom vs a65 2x
May 21, 2012

I have used the 2x on my a65 and have been happy with the results, even with my Tamron 18-270 at the 270x1.5x2=810 that's what PS5 shows as focal range. In addition to that when I view them in PS5 they are very pleasing shots and print nice. When viewed on my hd samsung 55 inch they look amazing. Does the a65 2x differ from the a37 clear image zoom?

To me that would make the a37 maybe the ultimate travel camera. I bought the a65 a a travel camera as my D7000 feature set is less to that goal plus heavier.

Just thoughts, happy to have the camera companies giving us great tech stuff to make our hoby more fun.

I'm thinking @57/@65 for the Beercan,
so love to see the IQ of the process.

The point I was making is that, while I understand the math of crop sensors and digital zooms, Photoshop does not and did not tell them it was 800mm.

That's a review of the HX30V... "Sony's Clear Image Zoom uses the camera's processor to compare patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, resulting in better digital zoom photos. It doubles the zoom range, and the shots are usable at small sizes. However, viewed at 100 percent, it's basically a painting."

As far as I know, all of Sony's HX cameras are JPEG-only, and Sony's JPEG engine pretty much always produces images that look like paintings at pixel peeping magnification, even with the best lenses you can get. So this indicates nothing either good or bad about Clear Image Zoom.

When a full review of the A57 is produced, I'm sure that particular feature will be thoroughly tested.
