Eclipse Pics, with my SX40
May 21, 2012

Waited too late to find a solar filter that would fit, so I made one. Bought some eclipse glasses on ebay, used one eyepiece framed by cardboard from the back of a notepad. Worked splendidly at full zoom.

Friend of mine is going to get me a small sheet of solar mylar, to cut to the size of the lens. I'll probably slip a piece between the camera lens and my UV filter, and try to catch the transit of Venus next month.

Thanks! But I have to give most of the credit to the camera. This was my first attempt to photograph an eclipse, so I wasn't sure what would work. The setting I thought would be the best ended up being the worst, and the one I had no hopes for turned out to be the best.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than to be good.
