Weekend MONOCHROME #81 |18-20 May| Post yours!
May 18, 2012

The world always looks a little different in shades of gray - or of sepia, or of platinum, or of ... , ... .

Post a monochrome or two, taken any time, with any camera, of any subject, processed any way you like. Please post your pictures as a response to this opening message.

Feel free to comment - or not - on any of the posts.

How does the world look to you?

Saw all these at a local May Day celebration. Thought they were good material for conversions to a classic 60s-70s B&W look.

Best to all,
Mark

Hello Mark,

I really like this one; the subject to background light balance and the background blur are both superb.

All the best,

Hello Leoshin,

Your shot of the drummer is my favourite, very nicely framed.

All the best,

Who would have thought there were elephants in the desert? Elephant Arch in Joshua Tree National Park from two weeks ago.

I like the S-curve and diagonals from the trees and reflections. The footbridge is a fine horizontal truss that catches the eye. There's a full range of tones here. It's an interesting image of a gently flowing river. Looks like winter too, no leaves?

Mother's Day
In reply to LouHolland, May 18, 2012

I spent the day out in The Trinity Valley with my family. I took way too many pix, and now am stuck at computer working at rendering and finishing them, while family call and ask for pix. Hmmm, what about JPG's? Never, Rich

My cousin grows many flowers, but his Irises are my favorites. This one is a magnificent purple, I used the color in my chop at the bottom right.
E5, ZD 12-60, 60mm, ISO 200, 1/200, f5.6.

It's a long, long while from May to December.

My dear Aunt is 90 years of age. She's gazing at her great grandson who is just 4 months old. I wonder what thoughts and memories are giving her this not quite poignant expression.
E5, ZD 12-60, 48mm, ISO 200, 1/160, f4.

I'd bet he's thinking, " Eat, poop, eat, poop...sleep."
f5.6

I got him with ZD 7-14 at 7mm. His father was helpful in turning his head around to face the lens, just a few inches from his face. Once he saw the huge bulbous lens element in his face, it got his attention.
E5, ISO 200, 1/200, f4.5.

At dinner, my cousin, the baby's father, traded me camera for baby. I rarely touch infants because they are so dear and so breakable, but once I get one in my arms, I melt just like a normal Human. A rare transition, for me. Holding a baby while wearing a silk shirt is a dicey proposition, too.
E5, ZD 12-60, 33mm, FL 50 on camera, ISO 200, 1/60, f3.6.

Another flower from their garden.

I like this low-key image. It really makes the white feathers, highlights and beak of the bird, including his outline, stand out. Nice framing.
