**** Mini-challenge 328**** Macro
May 16, 2012

Thank you WilbaW for the wonderful challenge, Amazing Feets. I dont think we have dont macro for a while. flowers, bugs, cat feet, abstract, whatever you have. does not have. would love to see your macro shots, and maybe a little description of set up if you like.
Challenge ends next Wednesday, the23rd, a 5mp, Pacific standard time.

Standard Rules

The host gives you a topic of interest. You post a maximum of three images. Any picture you've taken is eligible regardless of time taken and camera.

You can do all the post processing you want. However, it is most helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo (because we like to know).

Feel free to comment on other contestant’s images. If you want people to give you constructive criticism, ask for C&C.

The host chooses the winner. The host's decision is final. The host is not eligible.

The winner then hosts the next challenge, judges the winner, and passes on the baton to that person. The winner has 48 hours to post the new challenge. If that doesn't happen 2nd place has 24 hours to do so, and if that doesn't happen it's up to the 3rd place winner.

Posting Guidelines

When posting your picture, change the Subject of your post to display your picture titles and/or your name. This way, when someone replies it will refer specifically to you. If all entries read "Re: * Mini-Challenge xxx * …" it would be very boring to scan the list.

Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).

You may enter up to 3 pictures, but put them in a single post. Please give a title to each photo, this makes it easier to differentiate when giving comments.

Please size your photo no bigger than around 1200 pixels on the longest dimension. This is to let those with smaller monitors to see your image at full resolution. Please limit the file size of your entries to conserve bandwidth.

As a show of courtesy, and to save bandwidth, please remove the original post when replying, so you don't bring back any previous photos.

My Macros
In reply to kevindar, May 16, 2012

Nice subject kevindar, one of my favourites

I'll try to find out some new shots that have been on a display so often, here are my submissions:

Spider that my kids found between two window glasses, size ab. 20 mm (less than an inch)

Ants with Aphids doing their job, cropped quite a bit

Lily of the Valley leaves

All shot with EF 100/2.8 Macro, handheld without flash.

Trying to find image I haven't posted before, or at least for a while...

Peacock Jumping Spider, 1/200 sec, f/11, ISO 400, diffused external flash, probably shot with the 55-250 and a close-up lens and/or extension tubes.

Dandelion Cross-eyed Stereo. If you don't know how to view a cross-eyed stereo, check out this previous challenge -
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1031&message=36739837

Alternatively, here's a crop of the left image in the above stereo.

Coloured Pencils (maybe a cliche, but I like it). Similar settings to the first one, but f/16.

BTW, in case anyone is interested, I like the definition of macro that goes something like... images that allows you to see detail you can't normally see with the naked eye.

Sorry to post a pic that I have posted before, and that many of you would have seen already, but it is my only macro.

First one I posted earlier this week....

This one I took a few days ago. Not sure if it fits the macro theme. I was about ten feet away from this groundhog hiding behind a tree(you can see the tree in his eye).

Both shots are %100 crops.

Heading up to Algonquin Park for the long weekend tomorrow. Hope to get some macros there. Hopefully get one or two posted before the deadline.

I have been reading a lot on this forum because I just got a T3i..my first SLR..and am in learning mode. These macros are from previous cameras..the first two from a Canon A620, the last from a G11. All are handheld..I like swivel screens, especially for macro!

Bee on Thistle

Grasshopper

Spider

Very nice shots again Wilba. Someone will have to post something extra special to beat your jumping spider shot.

So you're using a new camera now?
What close up lens do you use with the 55-250?

This is the first time I've posted for a challenge. Very much welcome C&C. Took a new 100mm Macro to a garden for the obligatory flower pictures. Hope I've maintained some sense of artist composition also.

Thanks a bunch.

So you're using a new camera now?

Yeah, I sold the 450D. It wasn't fair to leave it gathering dust when someone else could have fun with it. I've hardly done any macro with the 60D.

What close up lens do you use with the 55-250?

Either a 250D or a 500D (I have both in 58mm).

Nice low-key with the ladybirds. I always get too much reflection on their shells. Any tips with that?

I like how the drop is perched on the yellow petals. Wonderful lighting and colors in the third picture, Sue Anne.
